Pride piece featuring my current sillies!!! They’re my favourite TWD family despite only existing in my brain due to two of them being my OCs.
Characters & flags: Lark (transgender), Eugene (bisexual), Felix (gay, intersex, graysexual), and Daryl (aroace).
Originally, I started drawing without any context in mind. But then I was thinking about what to do with the background and decided to make it the Commonwealth. So the context is that they’re at a pride parade at the Commonwealth. Is this canon to my AU? It could be. Years after the events of S11. It’s very in-character for Felix to suddenly remember pride parades used to exist and bring up the idea of throwing one at the Commonwealth to Ezekiel or someone.
I would’ve drawn more characters, but I haven’t ironed out my headcannons yet (and I’m lazy), so there’s only these four. But these choices make sense since they are a family. Felix & Eugene are married, they adopted Lark, and Felix & Daryl are basically brothers.
Speaking of Lark, I need to draw more of, and properly talk about, them one of these days because I love him so much. Here they are with their dads that weren’t always his dads and used to just be ‘people he travelled with’, but they became Lark’s dads after his previous father figure (Abraham) was killed. And I love Lark’s design because I included pattern details that link to each of their parental figures throughout the apocalypse.
And speaking of design details, time to talk about Felix’s waistcoat! As seen on his refs, Felix used to wear clothes with the feathers of his Cooper’s hawk sewn onto them. He had his hawk companion from the S2 timeskip to the end of S3 where she was sadly killed in the fight against the Governor. The problem with feathers though is that they degrade over time, so Felix stopped wearing these clothes to preserve the feathers for as long as possible. However, back when he had his hawk, Felix used to sketch her on loose bits of paper whenever he had time. So, many years later, once things had settled and he had free time again, Felix decided to paint his hawk onto his waistcoat. I think over time Fe would paint other animals onto it too, such as his cat and some of his pre-apocalypse birds, and it would become his favourite piece of clothing.
Anyway, my sillies say happy pride!
