not asking how many you've watched recently, BUT can I ask which channing tatum movie is your favourite? for me it's a tie between the lost city and jupiter ascending lol. no worries if you're not wanting to answer asks though! 👍

omfg a truly impossible question but one i am happy to discuss... yeah if it's favorite movie that channing tatum is in i think it's jupiter ascending but i rarely go for that one when im in the mood for a channing tatum film because his role in that one is like. sort of minor compared to some of the other options... so favorite channing tatum film i think has to honestly be magic mike xxl.

not to really get into it but obv the first magic mike is about channing tatum trying to start his own business and ultimately doing that plus finding the wifegirl of his dreams and in order to accomplish this the film sets up this like. dichotomy between channing tatum's debauched life of stripping and sex and drugs and the dream job/dream wife/dream life trifecta that he dreams of. so i LOVE that the sequel immediately bursts that bubble and is like. well actually channing tatum does not like his dream job due to it's hard to run a small business and his employees want health insurance he can't afford to give him and also his girlfriend dumped him because happily ever after is not a concept that coheres in real life. maybe after the credits roll there is still suffering and hardship and the only thing you can do about it is go on a road trip with your boys to remind yourself that it's about the journey rather than the destination. i have a special place in my heart for anything that deals with the hollowness of so many of our most cherished cultural goals and ideals... and that is only a small part of what this movie is doing, either intentionally or unintentionally. obviously the phrase 'female gaze' is nothing but like. watching magic mike xxl makes you want to say it! we also HAVE to discuss the frankly insane chemistry between channing tatum and jada pinkett-smith in this film but i at the same time i CANNOT discuss it because its something everyone has to witness for themselves. ANYWAY. the lost city is too recent to really be a true contender in my rankings but i did absolutely enjoy it!!

i recently read Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon and adored it. i have no memory of learning about it, but at some point in the past i put a hold request in on it, so SOMETHING must have caught my interest. it's a romance novel about two regular people falling in love, which is not usually my thing. i prefer my romances to have a twist of some sort, like a spaceship or a corpse. this doesn't. it's about a tv meteorologist and a sports reporter who conspire to get their divorced bosses back together because they're making their workplace a living nightmare. and even though it's about that, it's not really even about that? it's about ari, who has depression and has never really found a way to talk to a partner about it, and russell, who has a 12-year-old daughter he fathered at 17 and who hasn't been on a date in 5 years discovering that they like each other. additional points: russell is fat and ari is very very into him, and both ari and russell are Jewish.

i read it all in a single evening and definitely recommend it.

hiya and congrats on making bread! if u wanna, can we get a bread pic? (no worries if nah of course!) my roommate started making sourdough last month so now a starter named Phil lives in our kitchen.

Of course you may have a bread pic! This is a honey whole wheat loaf made with 100% whole wheat flour, from this really straightforward recipe. As you might be able to see from the picture, it's on the denser side.

Phil is a really cute name for a collection of little yeast creatures, I hope he is making your/your roommate's bread rise admirably.

greetings! :)) saw in ur tags that you're re-reading winters orbit - would u recommend it to someone (me) who likes reading romance & scifi/fantasy? Ive seen it at my library a couple times and haven't gotten round to checking it out yet, but the cover keeps catching my eye haha!

Hi! Yes, i'd definitely recommend it!! it’s really good. I mean it depends a little on what kind of romance you like, but for me it really hits the sweet spot of like… two characters who really need each other finding each other & slowly recovering from the bad shit they’ve been through. like the ideal target audience for this book is like… someone who likes sci fi (especially sci fi with political machinations) and is looking for the kind of (maybe slightly self-indulgent?) romance where no matter how bad things get you KNOW things are going to work out okay for these characters.

small caveat: one of the characters has been through something really traumatic & the book goes in-depth into how that affects him. personally i find it comforting in a “he's been through this and come out the other side, maybe i can get through the stuff im going through and be ok” kind of way, but it feels irresponsible to recommend the book without mentioning it at all.

i see you're reading Care Of, what do you think of it?? I tried it last month, & it was really good, but i had to stop about halfway through because i needed some lighter reading. some of those stories hit pretty close to home.
