It took Jack Dempsey just 23 seconds to catapult himself into prime position to challenge world heavyweight champion Jess Willard #OnThisDay in 1918 at the Federal League Baseball Park in Harrison, New Jersey. 2 to 1 favourite, ‘The Rochester Plasterer’ Fred Fulton never stood a chance as the terrifying Dempsey laced into him and laid him out with a terrific right hand. It really was a one-punch fight. 6’ 4” Fulton never landed a blow on Dempsey. Fulton's manager, Mike Collins, examined Dempsey's hands in the ring prior to the fight and complained about the tire tape bandages he was wearing. Dempsey told his manager, Jack Kearns, "Go over and give Fulton all the tape he cares to wear, and tell him he'll need it." #boxing #BoxingNews #BoxingHistory #JackDempsey #FredFulton (at Harrison, New Jersey)
