Today, on International Women's Day, as so many posts celebrate women of the past and present, it's important to remember that the World Economic Forum has estimated that gender parity is still 200 years away. To give some perspective, it's been almost that long since Swedish writer Fredrika Bremer wrote in her 1856 novel Hertha the following words, which still ring true: “Women… are not yet all that they might be. Their full day is not yet come.” It is a day that might come a lot sooner than 200 years if the level of interest and enthusiasm expressed on March 8 were sustained throughout the year. You can read more about Bremer and her groundbreaking novel in an article I wrote last year, "The 19th Century Novel Missing from the Feminist Literary Canon" (https://viva.media/the-19th-century-swedish-novel-missing-from-the-feminist-literary-canon). #IWD2019 #BalanceforBetter #WriteAboutWomen #WomensHistory #FredrikaBremer #Hertha https://www.instagram.com/victoriamartinezwriter/p/Buvo7oTAhNo/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=130u8oi9kj6p3
