"The Pillar" (2006)

Mostly 2H Graphite pencil on paper. Drawn to be flipped upside down and still somewhat reasonably viewed as still right-side up.

Probably the oldest art piece I keep on hand, I was still in school and being in an advanced class, was allowed to dictate how the semester would go. Then my teacher was like "you know you have 5 more pieces due by the end of the semester and we're halfway through?"

After 5 years and half of zero traditional drawing, after over 20 years of drawing only with references...

Now I want the freedom to draw freely, without references. I had a negative experience with drawing with references and ultimately they made me hate drawing, it was like I was not even myself anymore. Never again

This does not mean I will never copy or analyze reality or art. But for creative art I will rely mostly on my imagination. I want freedom to create again.

Aside Shadow's left hand, the rest might be either Sonic or Shadow. For this I didn't add any specific features, I only want to understand how their hands and feet are supposed to be.
