So, can we talk about the official Shadow bio from SEGA?
This is a pretty bad case of SEGA wanting their cake and eating it too. We've seen that Shadow owned a motorbike painted in his colors. We've seen it a few times, first in Sonic 06, and it's made a few reappearances. That would be a clear preference.
SEGA has also had Shadow enjoy coffee in the side stuff, and even had him selecting specific beans for his consumption.
So why does SEGA write that Shadow has no likes? I think this is just SEGA trying to have Shadow being the edgy cool dood who's constantly brooding and uncaring as he stands separate from everything.
Also, just to note, that "Nothing" suggests that Shadow is a heartless goit who doesn't care about anyone or anything. The Shadow here wouldn't care about Maria, or about Gerald, or even care about Rouge, and we've seen Shadow save Rouge a few times which kind of suggests he cares about her? But apparently not.
Also, the bio says that Shadow has an agenda, but doesn't mention what that agenda actually IS. What is it that drives Shadow? Why does he do what he does? Get fucked, I guess, because SEGA doesn't know and certainly isn't saying in this bio other than a generic "save the world" thing. It says he's not driven by good or evil, so what drives him? A heart of Neutrality? Is he basically His Naturalness from Futurama?
Dated millenial joke right here.
Actually, the only motivation Shadow might actually have here is that he Hates all Humans. That's it, that's his sole example of motivation we actually get from SEGA, he hates humans.
This doesn't read like a dark brooding hero ready to stand up against injustice, but a borderline villain who cares only about himself and his own needs.
As in, if I was given this Bio and told to do something with it, all I could come up with is "Shadow seeks the destruction of Eggman because he's a flaming bigot who thinks that Eggman is the perfect example of how Humans are all evil."
This Shadow is a nominal hero, who is only a good guy cause he's fighting Eggman. This Shadow would inevitably turn on Humanity when Eggman was dealt with, making him the villain of the final act.
Just... not a good Bio. Not at all.
