Hello, dear COTL-lore-guy, I want to know more about Free-pack as a faction. They are very intelligent in tactics and combat, soooo why they are not most dominant faction in entire game? I hope you have information about this.
I believe there are several reasons why the Free Pack, despite technological and scientific advancements, is simply unable to surpass the Divine.
The troops
If we take a closer look at elite troops, we can see at least a significant difference in both size and abilities. The Old Faith troops are far larger than the Free Pack troops. Regarding abilities, we know that those from the Old Faith have the ability to throw fireballs while those from the Free Pack can throw lightning in different ways.
Both abilities are quite destructive, but their sheer scale must also be considered. The lightning has great ranged capability, but the fireballs possess a destructive force equivalent to the size of their caster, which would put the lightning, despite its control, at a disadvantage when trying to eliminate these elite Old Faith troops.
As for regular troops, it's clear that the Free Pack troops are the winners, as evidenced by the countless corpses of them found by Ewefall.
But overall, then there's the number of Free Pack troops, which, despite being numerous, is still less than the entire island, considering that all four biomes contain Cultists and the Free Pack only lives in the outer part of Ewefall. No matter how advanced their technology was, the only feasible option was to attack stealthily and free followers using the Legendary Gauntlets.
Leaders
However much Marchosias may have been able to free the Bishops' followers through the Gauntlets, we know that doesn't prevent them from being recruited again. And while this would be slowly killing them, Marchosias would have to eradicate the faith from almost all the lands, something the Bishops would eventually notice, and they could simply wipe them all out in an unprecedented way. The Bishops aren't really a problem for us because of our crown (and the script), but as for Marchosias, a mere mortal, he would have simply died along with his pack long ago if the Bishops had actually cared at all.
What could a mere mortal do against four genocidal maniacs who were responsible for exterminating and eradicating the hundreds of gods that once existed?
Post game
Both sides have lost their strongest forces, their Gods, and Marchosias. And if we consider only the number and types of cultists and Free Pack members, there's simply no way the Free Pack can stand against the Cultists. They no longer have the legendary Gauntlets to add more troops to their ranks, and their strongest members (the Minibosses) have already been recruited by The Lamb. It's simply impossible for them to do anything against all the other forces in the lands
But in the end, both factions appear weak before the only remaining God, who is impossible to kill and constantly gains new followers.
The strength of the Free Pack is really overrated; they are indeed quite strong and well-organized in combat, but they are still limited. No matter how much they do, even if they imitate divine abilities, as Marchosias does, they could not approach the strength of a God. At least Marchosias proved that mortals can also have enough strength and achievements to, to some extent, defy the rules of their world.
Edit: And also, I think everyone thinks that all the members of the Free Pack are as intelligent as Marchosias, but no, that's never been said. Without Marchosias, technically any technological advancement would not exist, leaving Free Pack members without these tools and the improvements Marchosias made to them.
