what i hate the most ab re9 discourse rn is when anyone mentions any resident evil women and how they should’ve been relevant in requiem it all boils down to debates about their importance to leon’s character
any mention of them is discussed as PROOF LEON IS MARRIED TO THEM or how they shouldn’t be there bc of what they mean or don’t mean to leon
jill has the most connection to racoon city, it’s a place where she lived, worked and was hunted down for trying to stop the unimaginable
it’s sherry’s home and a place where she lost both her parents in a horrific way
it’s a city claire went to in search for her only family, her big brother, her stability and protection, and instead ended up finding it in herself to become “the elder” to another, protecting and fighting for sherry. racoon city incident changed her entire life and her idea of self, she never wanted to fight, was looking for a fighter (chris) and ended up becoming a fighter herself and continued fighting for humanity after going through that transformation
raccoon city was a place where ada saw firsthand not just the devastation choices of others lead to, but also saw hope, evidence that not every person is selfish, that there’s still humanity. her “death” was symbolic to the rebirth of ada who made her own choices and chose to save people. she explicitly mentions raccoon city changing her as a person later and that change leads to her saving billions of people
most of RE fans are failing the bechdel test in their own heads i swear
leon’s character has his own ark and we love him, but resident evil women are so much more than their connections to men and their paths and sole inner turmoil deserves same consideration outside of relationships, it’s 2026 how is this something that has to be spelled out yet again in our day and age
im not even saying they should be in the game, i’m not speaking on their involvement or lack of it bc i think this group mindset is exactly why capcom left them out of the picture and continues to do so with new characters (have my thoughts ab that as well but that’s a monologue for another time) but this particular line of thinking is frying my brain
