Earth Day at Garden in the Light was beautiful! We had 4 PACE artists represented in one way or another, 6 community organizations present, 3 city staff as volunteers, 17 volunteers, got 10 additions to our garden mailing list and 18 families signed up for the free family photo shoot coming in May, gave away about 85 trees and countless seeds and seedlings, as well as toys, books, and school supplies, made many potato prints and paintings, planted 10 bushes and lots of sunflowers to go home with the kids, had 5 performers grace the block with their words and joyful noise, one powerful drum circle, over 100 attendees, and made infinite connections all in two hours on this one corner in this one city on this one Earth.

18 months ago I picked up a few acorns and stuck them in old compost. They all popped and grew last year, and at least 2 of them are showing some signs of spring growth. My little oak grove to be!

Had a great nap, and then I put away all my clean laundry and picked up my mail! My new book of checks hasn't come in yet, but if anyone near me wants 33% off a tree from The Arbor Foundation and a free 3' to 4' red maple, I have a coupon for that now. I don't own any property and I'll ask around, but I don't think my mom or grandparents want 2 trees right now, lmao.

I'm about to apartment search again. I really don't want to. Wish me luck.

Fellow PACE artist, Libby Modern, hooked up this sweet flyer for our community garden event. We’ve handed out a few hundred of these beauties this week and passed them on to the neighborhood elementary school. At the event, I’ll be signing folks up for my first PACE engagement event and fellow PACE artist, Dominique Jordan, will be coming through with music entertainment. NeighborWoods is a partnership between TreeFolks and the City of Austin to lower summer temperatures and reduce energy consumption by investing in tree canopy cover for Austin area neighborhoods. NeighborWoods is proudly supported by the Community Tree Preservation Division in the Development Services Department at the City of Austin. We distribute 4,600 free trees every year during the very best planting season for Central Texas, October 1st through March 31st.

A shade-loving man is helping the urban forest take root in East L.A.

The organization, which Mario Becerra founded in 2012 with friend Fabian Beltran, is focused on improving air quality and the appearance of neighborhoods that have been neglected over the decades. So far, the organization has planted and given away more than 5,000 trees in Boyle Heights, East L.A, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights, South L.A. and other communities.
