why aren’t we talking about how the Freedom Act didn’t get passed
The Freedom Act, a continuation of the Patriot Act, is up for renewal. A few politicians want to make changes. As usual, politicians can't agree on
The senate voted to allow collection of browser history without a warrant or even probable cause as an extension to the Patriot Act. The way McConnell secured that vote was shady as well.

NSA’s “zombie dragnet” still bulk collecting our phone data
While TV talking heads tell us to fear hackers accessing government records… The leading civil liberties group in the United States has requested a federal court to stop the National Security Agency from collecting Americans’ phone data in bulk through the end of the year. While the surveillance dragnet was phased out by Congress and Barack Obama last month, an American Civil Liberties Union suit…

A new Senate bill would dramatically expand surveillance to prevent cyber attacks, but real security is about minimizing risk.

We The People: Are Still Being Lied To

If you believe in your natural human rights and the freedoms this country was founded on, then you probably are also in favor of personal privacy. Nobody likes a Peeping Tom, or a nosey neighbor snoop, so what makes the government think the citizens of this country would be thrilled with the National Security Agency doing just that? The Democrats and Republicans in Congress met last week with President Obama, patting one another on the back for “taming” the NSA (National Security Agency) and its apparent need for spying on the American people. The group of political leaders have allowed a portion of the Patriot Act to expire, thus replacing it with something friendly, welcoming, and likely deceiving: The USA Freedom Act.
Freedom. That sounds like a lovely word to implement into our fully established list of “Acts.” If our country is and was founded on freedoms, then we must ask ourselves why the government feels the need to add it into already existing actions.
Is this simply a formality or a ploy to trick the American people into believing they have done right by us?

While the federal government takes a bow, acting as if they’ve tamed the biggest spy beast in existence, we can pick through the replacements and stipulations and see for ourselves how nothing of substance is present. Nothing substantial has changed aside from the attractive name and attention it has brought to those who take the government’s word as gold.
Under the Patriot Act, the NSA had complete access and actual possession of digital content from text messages, emails, and phones calls from the American people, dating back to 2009. Under the new “Freedom Act,” the NSA has the same capabilities only the means by which they acquire the digital content is varied. If the NSA and the federal government can intimidate CEOs and private entities while obtaining and changing the way operations are mandated, then how are the American people supposed to maintain their rights?
The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It applies in good times and in bad, in war and in peace. It regulates the governed and the governors. Yet if the government that it regulates can change it by ordinary legislation, then it is not a constitution but a charade.
We the people, need to pay close attention to the changes our government is making. We the people, are still be lied to.
Former National Security Agency contractor turned whistleblower Edward Snowden was quietly vindicated on Tuesday when the US Senate passed a bill to end the government’s bulk collection of phone records.
The NSA's bulk data collection of Americans is finally coming to an end after being ruled illegal and Congress' failure to extend the Patriot Act.

William Boardman: USA Police State Celebrated as Defense of Freedom
USA Freedom Act replaces USA Patriot Act, sort of, and so?
The mindless rush to reinstate government police powers undreamed of in the Constitution was a bitterly comic charade of American democracy. Some now celebrate the USA Freedom Act as “a cultural turning point for the nation.” Others condemn the USA Freedom Act as “a significant weakening of the tools” to protect the country. People on…
