Thoughts On Jonny Sims/D'Eville

I realize half the fandom hasn't gotten around to looking into our patron Jonny's old band but has anyone considered- an AU where Jon's days playing in his old school band left him with more than just memories? Like, a dose of confidence and a group of old friends with a penchant for destruction? The kind of confidence that let's you roar out lines like "I suggest you beat a fucking tactical retreat!" while gunning down a group of the finest female warriors the galaxy has to offer. A Jon that can throw a punch, has gotten into a bar fight at least once, and definitely has a tattoo somewhere. He just chooses not to act out because he thinks it's so unprofessional, really Melanie, band T-shirts are not proper office attire.

But then Jane Pretiss happens and professional behavior goes out the window. Everything and everyone around him is a threat? Fine. Not the first fight he's gotten into (that one was over some bitch cat-calling Nastya after a performance). What are they gonna do, stab him? Well, ouch, first off, but they don't have the right to make him scared like that.

So he calls up his old cronies from college and asks for a favor. A pre-emptive strike if you will. The next day, he walks into work not in a button down but in a graphic t-shirt, a leather jacket, and combat boots. And the day after, an old duster, some skinny jeans, and a studded leather belt. And so on.

And everyone is just agog as Jon cycles through all the clothes in his friends' closets because? Is this their Jonathan Sims? The hell??? Martin thinks it's hot oh my god, why, while everyone else is too spooked to approach, which is kind of what he was hoping for to be honest. Elias just turns up in his office and gives him a quick look over, before commenting that his goggles are crooked and leaving, shook by the images of Slaughter he got when he Looked. Obviously Jon isn't Slaughter-touched, but the songs The Mechanisms sang were bloody enough to leave an impression, so people become a bit more wary after that. (Seriously, I can't think of a single Mechanisms album that doesn't end in at least three fourths of the main cast dead).

It's just clothes, but the clothes are a reminder of his old days, and with that comes behavior changes. Jon starts swearing more, for example, becomes a bit quicker to ask statement-givers to get to the point. He's still paranoid and suspicious, creeping around the archives like he expects a knife in the back, but now Tim and Co. are just as convinced that Sims is planning to murder them. And Not!Sasha avoids him like he'll, because they too can see the Slaughter stitched into every bit of those coats and jackets and hell no does they want to mess with that.

The day Jon finds Leitner is the day he punches that mad bastard in the face for ruining so many lives with his books (although he apologizes for it later when he finds out it isn't his fault).

The day Jon becomes a wanted man is the day his old group comes knocking on Georgie's door and demands to take him on tour because everyone is looking for Jonathan Sims, but no one is looking for Jonny D'Eville.

Melanie and Basira and Martin 100% end up seeing him live during this period. Make of that what you will.

I just have. So many thoughts about Mechanisms!Jonny.
