Do you have that reaction to onions or garlic like that too? It sounds like a mild case of IBS, potentially.
So I dunno about IBS, but a very kind person tipped me off about something called fructans that sounds like it’s probably the real culprit for me, because I have the same heartburn reaction to leeks. Last time I made delicious potato leek soup I was in tasty hell. So, my apologies to gluten. But I still can’t have much wheat, because fructans are found in wheat along with gluten. Bring on the fructan free bread.
Heres an NPR article about it if you think you might have the same problem. It explains that the number of merely “gluten sensitive” people is probably very low, and for the vast majority, you either are fine with gluten or are Extremely Not Fine, i.e. celiac or wheat allergy.
