By @berettascottking : "This is Dejuan Correia, the nephew of the late Troy Davis. I met Dejaun when he was a child, and I was a young mother working on the #FreeTroyDavis / #IAmTroyDavis campaign. He’s the grandson of Virginia Davis- Troy’s mother and the son of Martina Davis- Correia, Troy’s sister- whom all three I got to know under the worst circumstances and at the worst points of their lives, as Troy’s life was in the balance and he was murdered by the state. Mother Virginia and Martina have too since become ancestors. Their bloodline is strong, and their hopes, dreams and aspirations live through Dejuan. I have watched him grow from afar, and I’ve always kept tabs on him- even when he didn’t know. Always seeing how he was doing nothing but good work. And his graduation couldn’t make me more proud and more aware that his ancestors live through him. He is a 2019 @morehouse1867 graduate that not only has earned a degree in physics, but also received the blessing of having the balance of any monies owed post- baccalaureate being paid by Robert F. Smith, a billionaire investor who received his honorary doctorate from Morehouse- along with the rest of the class of 2019. After what this young man has seen, experienced and lost at such a young age, how amazing is it that he is able to bring his adulthood with an advanced degree and all debts paid... he deserves it. Dearest Dejuan... I look forward to witnessing so much greatness from you... and I know that I can see Troy, Martina and Mother Virginia when I look in your eyes. May your family greatness continue... May you achieve all your goals way past your imagination. And may justice be swift... as Georgia owes you. Be great, Black man... the ancestors have cleared your path. ❤️ Asé. God Bless You. And thank you Dr. Robert Smith, it is my hope that other influential and successful people of color follow your lead." #blackmensmile #morehouse #blackmensmilemonday https://www.instagram.com/p/BxsE9SXJAf1/?igshid=1vskkvmkfr9yh
