I’ve been really filling up my sketchbook pages lately (good thing you can get cheap, easy and decent from the dollar store 😂) * For the longest, I was afraid to sketch, so I stuck to improvised abstract shapes. * It was partly because I was afraid I wasn’t a good draw-er...my hand seems to have its own mind and wants to go places that I didn’t plan for it to go. * It was partly also due to using the wrong tool (for me). Pencil drives me crazy, but I I can relax and let loose with a fine-tipped pen. You would think that the opposite was true, since you can erase and redo... but like I used to tell my middle school students, there is a certain freedom with being accepting mistakes in your work. Having the option to erase just puts you into a perfectionism loop that you can’t get out of. * Lastly, I didn’t sketch much because the I thought I had to draw cutesy flowers and cute animals (especially in the textile design field). Nothing wrong with that , but that subject matter does not interest me (yet). What does interest me though, is my heritage and ancestry, and history. It just occurred to me that I can do that. I feel liberated. Turns out I’ve been waiting for permission all along. * What about you? What’s holding you back? * Oh dang, maybe this should’ve been a blog post. #musings #themoreyouknow🌈 #artlife #freeyoself #creativityheals (at Yetunde Rodriguez Design)
