what do u think about the brand avene?
my opinion of pretty much every french pharmacy brand i’ve tried, be it avène, bioderma, la roche-posay, etc., is essentially the same: great basic products on the pricier side but usually worth it for the high-quality, well-researched and elegant formulations, especially if you have skin conditions or sensitivities, but if you’re looking for high percentage actives to dramatically change your skin they’re not really the first place i’d look. also, they tend to be quite boring and clinical-feeling. I love putting medical research above gimmicky ingredients, but if i’m paying that much, can’t a girl get some aesthetically pleasing packaging at least?
avène in particular have one of my fave summertime moisturizers which i love mixing in with foundation, which is the hydrance optimale UV light hydrating cream. not enough SPF on its own, but always good to layer with a proper sunscreen for higher protection, too.
what do you think about the brand la roche posay?
it’s a typical french pharmacy brand - on the pricier side sometimes, but with well-researched and elegant formulations and plenty of lines to target specific skin conditions. many good ones for eczema, sensitive skin and for folks dealing with the side effects of accutane. they have some retinol and vitamin c products but it can be hard to figure out the % of these ingredients which does make me a little sad and for that reason i, personally, would rather have my wardrobe of workhorse actives from other brands - but they certainly offer great picks for moisturizers, cleansers and skin-soothing products. extra points for being very un-gimmicky, though i will admit that loses some of the fun ‘skincaretainment’ value, but hey, if it works...

My 8 Beauty Secrets from France
My 8 Beauty Secrets from France
I posted some time ago a list of the top most beautiful French women (according to me), and I think it’s time to talk about French beauty again. It’s a subject in haute pursuit (‘scuse the franglais punned phrase) for many of us non-French women for some time now, probably a couple of centuries, I’d say. It’s true though, so many French women have this sort of inexplicable effortless beauty (to…
