the craziest thing about learning a language is how, before you know a single word of it, you can listen to it and it’s just kinda in one ear and out the other, but as soon as you know a few pronouns and basic verbs, you can never be a passive listener like that ever again. even if you don’t get very far in your learning, and it’s 10 years later, your brain will still catch a couple of words and that language can never be completely meaningless to you ever again.
