Intro - La vie, amour, and more
Bienvenue! I’m so excited to talk with all of you, but first, this post is a bit more about my background and the reason for this blog.
I’m 22 years old, from West Michigan. I moved to Seattle after graduating highschool to later on receive my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations (Graduate as of May 2017!).
My Junior year of college I studied for a semester in Budapest, where I met my boyfriend Marc who was there working an internship in the fashion industry. It was a romantic whirlwind, and we decided 3 hours before my flight back to America that we would try and do the long distance thing.
Long distance was hard, and led to a breakup last October. That was extremely difficult, but we kept in touch throughout those 6 months. During my Spring Break, I decided to go with my best friend to Brussels to interview with a company I wanted to have an internship with, and I took a weekend to see Marc in Lille where he lives (He’s french). As soon as we saw each other at the train station, it had felt like we had never left the other’s side.
We got back together, and as it my senior year progressed, we wanted to come up with a plan to make the distance a little less distance-y. I ended up getting the internship in Brussels for the Summer, and had the most amazing time, meeting the most amazing people, and eating lots of kebab (a shared love of mine and Marc’s). But while I had expectations to get a permanent position with the company I worked for, or find another company, it didn’t work out that way.
After arriving in Michigan again, I spent a good two months looking for jobs in Europe with no leads to anyone wanting to sponsor my visa. Then I came up with the idea of becoming an Aupair.
I created a few profiles, and had received over 30 “applications” from families wanting me to be their aupair. After doing a lot of research, and figuring out other important factors like location, pay (damn, student loans), and what kind of family I was looking for, I found a lovely family in Waldbillig, Luxembourg, with a host mom that has the same name as me.
I have paperwork filled out and submitted to work and live in Luxembourg as an Aupair, and have a tentative arrival date of December 28th. This blog is mostly to cover my experience doing this, living in a foreign country, with a foreign boyfriend, as well as tips on aupairing and travel.
I’m super excited to get to know and talk with all of you, and make sure to ask me questions and comment whenever you feel like it.
