pierresteban is crazy bc that is a perfect rpf lore!! the tension being so palpable that it becomes a joke and everyone is just fucking laughing about ur emotional childhood fallout that you're not sure you ever got over.

Drift compatibility: F1 drivers

(possibly the barest bones of a pacific rim au? Otherwise just a vague analysis of f1 duos) (landoscar, galex, lestappen, maxiel, carlando, charlando, norstappen, charlos, carcar, brocedes and frenchpine listed below)

Oscar and Lando: takes a second for them to warm up to each other, but after a few rough starts they're drift compatible to the nth degree. One's best qualities are the others' worst, and vice versa. No complicated or messy feelings between them to make things difficult. Vibes only.

Alex and George: very drift compatible since they grew up together in this AU and basically share all their childhood memories, but every now and again you'll hear a very loud "GEORGE!!!!" come ringing out from the cockpit. The higher-ups think it's how they show their love.

Max and Charles: People are going to hate me for this but Charles and Max are NOT drift compatible whatsoever and never will be. I think if they tried to handle a jaeger together they'd actually just rip the thing apart. They're probably good friends outside of the jaeger, but trying to control one together? Absolutely not. Too many memories, too many conflicting pasts.

Max and Daniel: Vibes vibes vibes. Possibly the most drift compatible pair on the planet. Daniel lets Max take the lead, but reigns him in when it looks like Max is going to try and fly solo. Max is stabilised by Daniel, and isn't given the chance to get too in his head.

Lando and Carlos: An easy drift compatible duo. However, both would end up too comfortable, and wouldn't push each other enough to work well. They get complacent and giggly and lose track of what they're supposed to be doing, and since neither can focus the higher-ups avoid pairing them.

Lando and Charles: god can you imagine. I mean jesus christ. A worse pairing than max/charles, and it's not close. They're both generally pretty good at drifting with other people, and the higher-ups thought they'd make a great pair since they're both so reliable and easy to get along with. Unfortunately, they're reliable and easy to get along with in completely different and oppositional ways. They are banned from operating a jaeger together after Last Time.

Max (V) and Lando: they are drift compatible, but they Do Not Want To. Handling a jaeger is So Far down their list of Fun Things For Us To Do. Max gets nervous because he doesn't feel stable with Lando and Lando gets nervous because he feels suffocated by Max's need for control. It can happen under duress, but they'd rather just spend three hours sparring and then go drift with their respective Australians.

Charles and Carlos: just barely hanging on to drift compatibility. Neither wants to be there. Both have other people they'd rather drift with. They got through training together as a duo out of sheer will and went their separate ways the second they were able. Truly the PR friendship of jaeger operation

Oscar and Carlos: never drifted together. The higher-ups took one look at how they behave outside of a jaeger and decided even trying was a lost cause. This suits them both fine. Carlos is endlessly pissy that he isn't allowed to drift with Lando but Oscar is.

Lewis and Nico: blah blah blah they were once the most drift compatible pair you've ever seen blah blah blah they were the most powerful jaeger pair ever until The Horrors blah blah blah general brocedes lore. We all know. Do I even have to say it.

Pierre and Esteban: Given the chance, Esteban would feed Pierre to a kaiju.
