First Panic Attack :D

Benrey: What.. what the fuck? Why?..

Gordon: Why.. what? You were having a panic attack, man. I calmed you down?

Benrey: That’s new. 

Gordon: ??

Benrey: Usually they just use these weird meds when I get like that and I fall asleep.

Gordon: .. I’m not going to sedate you, Benrey.

Benrey: ....huh.

Sooo here’s where I define how based on the animatics I’ve seen how he’d act. He would definitely be a lot worse as a villain then Benrey is. Gordon is extremely smart and a rather smart leader which makes him all the more dangerous. I feel that at first Benrey would like how he acts, as he would be more confident and reciprocate the flirty banter. But then he would start to get a bit... creepy. To the point even Benrey recognizes that something is up. Like openly joking about murder and asking Benrey weirdly specific things about his species. Benrey isn’t very open about his weakness to cold, so Gordon would find it out another way. Probably from hurting another xen creature with a cold can of soda, like a headcrab. Benrey would for sure pick up on this and get really freaked out. Specifically I imagine him joking about trapping him for a while to get him weak and easy to transport.. It would go down hill from there. Basically Gordon is obsessed with him but also do what is akin to torture to make sure he stays with him, even if it is because he can’t physically leave.

Pain, awww

I like the idea that Benrey goes quiet when he is in pain, and Gordon really gets nervous when that happens. It’s just uncomfortable for him to see Benrey quiet, either actually going through something in his head, or it’s seeing him injured from some alien and bleeding. 

And you bet your ass Gordon has done mental gymnastics to explain why he does actually hate Benrey and absolutely isn’t protective of him in any way. Not at all.

Xen shit

My headcanon for Benrey’s existence is that he basically doesn’t have parents or really any guardian. Xen is very much going by animal laws, though he did end up with sentience that other monsters lacked. It’s rare for Xen creatures to have sweet voice, though, so he never met anyone else like him. It was more just trial and error with the other creatures: Is that one friendly? No, then run. There are predators and such.

He also got into black mesa by accident, and changed his appearance to match a bit more in with the humans. Gordon is confused as to how he knows most of the monsters they run into, but he’s encountered them before. Which, yes, means that humans cannot hurt him easily but god can Xen creatures be deadly to him. Some being predators to his species, basically aliens that can sense when a sweet voice carrier is near by and will try to kill them. (though, luckily, he didn’t run into any of those guys)
