It's a hard space to escape for those trying to over-write their past (and maybe even defy their genetics). So I plead guilty to all of it… From over-reacting, disobeying, speaking before thinking, to making others uncomfortable with my trauma. From making bad decisions, to my stubbornness, ignorance, and all of my immature mistakes. From to being too much, to existing as an overly-emotional creature who is ultra sensitive and sometimes rash. And I’ll confess to this: I've always wanted more. And I know now that I won't find growth in the mindsets that have held me back. So I can stop choosing the long road back to me. And really move on. It’s like when Alice outgrew the White Rabbit's house. There just wasn't room for her old self anymore. RIP Old Self. It’s time for the risk and commotion of something fresh and new. And sometimes there isn't going to be much peace or outward understanding in the initial steps of personal change. Quite the opposite actually. There’s your identity crisis blended in the truths + misconceptions of being a naughty little girl, a rebellious teenager, and a hysterical, weird, crazy woman. But once you decide to change, to become truer to yourself, you already have. And there really is no choice but to continue becoming more of you. The embryonic kicks of personal freedom come from within, and are undeniable to those who choose to feel them. It's the kind of gestation that can help transform the stories and experiences that have felt like enemies and setbacks, into allies and treasures. When we say YES to the revolutionary contractions of being re-birthed from all the boxes, labels, and walls of our past, don't we almost always typically look back and wish we had said YES sooner? I'm telling my yesterday self and today's woman to risk being misunderstood. To do it anyway. Because life is short.
