we were lucky enough to hang out at Frestonia a few times in our late teens and early 20s, just before it started to decay (it's really sad to see how it's been commercialised/commodified)
Frestonia was the name adopted by the residents of Freston Road, London, when they attempted to secede from the United Kingdom in 1977 to form the Free and Independent Republic of Frestonia.

hi everyone! this is gonna be a pretty short post but i just wanted to talk about this beautiful song, one of my favorites. when i was first introduced to aztec camera about 2 years ago, i never knew of their later works, including this album, frestonia. although this album didn’t have as much success as their debut, it slowly grew to becoming my favorite album in their discography.
this was the first song that i listened to from frestonia and i was awestruck by the lushness and maturity of the sound. woven carefully together with the lyrical genius of roddy frame, “sun” really shows what aztec camera is capable of as a band. i hope you give this one a listen! thanks for listening <3

I pass the People’s Hall when me & the Juha crew rehearse at Pirate Studios in Notting Hill, and took this photo as reminder to look up what it’s history is. Turns out, it’s history is rad! It’s the result Frestonia, aka the Free and Independent Republic of Frestonia. This was a group of squatters, artists, musicians, and activists who lived on Freston Road and decided Freston Road would secede from the United Kingdom. Frestonia has its own postage stamps that were honoured by the General Post Office. They passport stamps for “tourists.” The Clash recorded ‘Combat Rock’ at the People’s Hall, where Motörhead also rehearsed.
