Prayer to Freyr for hard times
This prayer was written by me, and is part of a series of prayers to recite when going through rough times. Everyone is going through the ringer right now, given the state of everything, so hopefully this can help you get through some tough things too. Enjoy!
Hail Freyr, son of Njordr, god of the fertile season,
Divine lover and bringer of wealth gifts,
I ask that you bring me abundance in my time of need.
As a farmer tills the soil and waters their crops,
So too shall my work bear a bountiful harvest,
By your will, O Ruler of Alfheim.
Shine your sunlight upon me and remind me of the gifts of life,
And that even in dark moments, the sun shall always rise again.
May my hard work and courage pay off,
And bring in a fruitful harvest for a bright future;
Grace me with your blessings, O Freyr, my dearest Lord,
And I shall sing your praises until I can sing no more.
Freyja and Freyr come to me as two sides of the same coin. In the same way that Freyr is Lord of the Elves, Freyja is Lady of the Valkyries. Fertility and Sovereignty is a given with them, but I also sense it in the same way, a congruency—a twin thing. Keepers of Ancestors. Perhaps it's more of a stretch to some, but I also feel that Freyr has to do with magic as well. Maybe not Seidr—or maybe it is?—but he has some sort of connection to it, maybe in the way that it relates to being Vanir, or simply by virtue of being the brother of Freyja. Freyr has some ties to it, more obscure, maybe more grounded in the Earth itself, given his associations with burials and land ownership. Magic in relation to the dead? Ancestor veneration? To be found out later maybe...Both also have connections to love, sex, reproduction. Immigrants in a foreign land. A father with deep connections to the water, the ocean, and a mother with deep connections to the Earth. They are as much Gods of Nature as they are Gods of Society. So, as it comes to me like any other intuitive thing, when I worship one, I worship the other. I think it is an inherent thing.
Norse mythology : Freyr - God of light, fertility, peace, prosperity, fair weather, and good harvest
Think if I ask nicely enough and grow some really good plants, Freyr and Gerð will let me into Alfheim?
“Freyr is the most renowned of the Æsir; he rules over the rain and the shining of the sun, and therewithal the fruit of the earth; and it is good to call on him for fruitful seasons and peace. He governs also the prosperity of men.”
-Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda: Gylfaginning, Chapter 24 (trans. Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur, 1916)
