Amelie, or in this instance Widowmaker lays on her stomach atop a five story building. The cool concrete below her her only company. It was a relatively quiet night. Her mission was to cover the retreat of talon agents returning from a skirmish. As she watches the black clad men fall back through the tight alleys, her mind drifts. It had been a long deployment, with little time for sleep. The sniper catches herself dozing off on occasion but doesn’t let it concern her.
As she dozes again, she hears a crunch of gravel behind her. Pushing herself upwards from her prone position to wheel on her visitor, she feels an arm wrap around her throat. The french woman gasps for air, the strong grip unrelenting. Amelie calms herself, her adrenaline inhibitor working overtime as she thinks through her situation. She pushes herself upwards, leaning her head down to throw her attacker off balance, and flips them off of her.
A tall, bulky man wearing black stands before her, the symbol of Blackwatch upon his shoulder. The mans only defining feature from the usual Blackwatch drones was the black cowboy hat atop his head. He begins to speak, a slow, southern united states draw. Amelie does not care to listen. She dives forward, trying to reach her rifle that was left abandoned on the ground. As her hand grazes the scope of the weapon however, her vision fills with stars as a pain shoots through her head. The man had delivered a roundhouse kick that she stupidly drove herself into.
The sniper straightens herself, reeling from her pounding head. She feels a warm substance dripping onto her shoulder. “Merde...” Amelie curses under her breath, her ear was bleeding rather profusely. her unsteadiness increases as she wills her body to provide her with more Adrenaline. Her vision clears long enough for her to regain her balance, raising her fists to challenge the main before her. Was he laughing at her? That was a big mistake. She notices his pistol was still holstered though, as he waved her to him.
Amelie stumbles again, knowing she has to end this quickly. Shaking the haze from the corners of her eyes, she fires her grappling hook at the wall next to the man, he laughs again, assuming she had missed. She smiles at him as she presses the retract button on the mechanism. With a lunge forward, she is quickly propelled towards the cowboy, both of her heeled boots connecting with his chest. A yell is heard as he flips backwards over the ledge. “Pas si drôle maintenant est-ce?”
She lays where she landed, a sigh escaping her lips as her vision darkens. Amelie feebly pulls herself into a sitting position. “This is Widowmaker, I’ve been ambushed. I require immediate medevac.” She waits for a reply that does not come. “Widowmaker to anyone. I need help.” Desperation grips her as she feels more and more tired. The sniper knows she is losing blood. If she falls asleep she will not wake. She pulls the communicator from her ear, the device cracked and lifeless. “Oh mon dieu, je ne veux pas mourir ici.” With no way to call for help, she waits for the inevitable blackness to consume her.
