Gwyn always disliked having to deal with the Cabot family. It wasn’t anything in particular that they’d done; they had always been polite in their dealings with her, and their book collection was impressive, immaculate, and Gwyn had at times gleaned items for her own personal collection from it, or even just sat to read and they’d never said a word to her about her overstaying the time she could have possibly needed to conduct her business there. But there was something unnerving about their home, about them. It all set her on edge. The Cabot family was an old one, that had been in the Commonwealth for as long as the Commonwealth had existed, but their longstanding family history couldn’t explain the condition of that house, an island of perfection in a sea of wastes. She had never seen anything else even remotely like it between the Capital and The Island.
But Gwyn had to make a living, and if one of her pre-war book sources had to be the Cabot family, so be it.
Pressing the intercom, her massive black dog sitting politely next to her, she waited for an answer.
"WHY AM I ALWAYS OUTSIDE ANYWAYS?"
LOGGING ON...
"FOR SOME ODD REASON I FEEL A BIT SLOW TODAY...?"
"APPARENTLY EVERYBODY IS FABULOUS"
"I'M NOT EVEN SURE WHAT TO DO TONIGHT," Friendly mumbled to himself.
