As part of the multilateral maritime exercise #MILAN22, Submarine rescue capability of the #IndianNavy was demonstrated at #ENC. Indian Navy acquired this capability in 2018 when two #DSRV rescue systems, one each for West and East coast, were procured. The event was attended by delegates from participating #FriendlyForeignCountries. The interaction included a lecture-demo at the DSRV complex, where the system is stowed in a ‘ready to fly’ configuration, extensive interaction and walk around of the complex, which is one of the largest DSRV storage and maintenance facilities in Asia. The Opening Ceremony of the biennial Multilateral Naval Exercise, #MILAN22 was held at Visakhapatnam on 26 February 2022. The Chief Guest for the event was Hon’ble Raksha Rajya Mantri, Shri Ajay Bhatt. The event was attended by Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff as well as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Chiefs of Navies, Delegation Heads of participating countries and the Commanding Officers and crew of all participating ships. A Special Day Cover and a movie on the MILAN exercise was released by the Chief Guest to mark the occasion. The eleventh edition of MILAN is being hosted by the #ENC at Vishakhapatnam for the first time. All previous editions have been held at Port Blair under the aegis of the Tri-Service Andaman and Nicobar Command. The participation from #FriendlyForeignCountries includes 13 ships, 39 delegations and one Maritime Patrol Aircraft. This large congregation gives significance and potency to the word ‘MILAN’, which means “meeting” or “confluence” in Hindi. MILAN endeavours to promote #Camaraderie, #Cohesion, #Collaboration between like-minded Navies. This is aimed to be achieved by professional interaction and experience sharing in harbour and enhancing interoperability, including multilateral operations, at sea. The harbour phase of the exercise will culminate on 28 February 2022, followed by the sea phase from 01 to 04 March 2022. This edition of MILAN is larger and more complex than all previous ones, reflecting India’s growing stature as a responsible and reliable partner in the #maritimedomain, underscoring the Indian Navy’s commitment to #maritimesecurity across the global commons. The goals of MILAN are aligned with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of #SAGAR – Security And Growth for All in the Region. MILAN 22 will play a vital role in establishing regional synergy for achieving peace and prosperity through cooperation and collaboration. #MILAN2022 The Mega Multinational Naval Exercise #MILAN2022 got underway with a Trek on the Dolphin’s Hill on 26 February 2022. The Trek was flagged off by Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, Chief of Navy, Australia in the presence of Commodore M Goverdhan Raju, Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andhra Pradesh). The Trek witnessed enthusiastic participation of over 500 personnel from participating navies from #FriendlyForeignCountries. 44 Hull Artificer Apprentices, including four foreign trainees, one each from Fiji, Ghana, Mauritius and Sri Lanka, successfully completed 119 weeks of professional training at INS Vishwakarma on 16 February 2022. Commodore S Sreekumar, Commanding Officer, INS Vishwakarma reviewed the #PassingOutParade. Long Communication (International) specialisation course comprising 17 officers from eight #FriendlyForeignCountries graduated from Signal School on 18 February 2022 after seven months of theoretical and practical training on #Communication, #ElectronicWarfare and #InformationTechnology. Lieutenant Commander Mohd Tanvir Ahsan from #BangladeshNavy was awarded #FOCINC, SNC Rolling Trophy for standing first in overall order of merit. Lieutenant Commander MO Ommut’sa from #KenyaNavy was awarded the trophy for most spirited officer. Commodore Ajay Shekhar Shukla, Commodore Training, #SNC reviewed the #PassingOutParade and felicitated the graduating trainees. Lieutenant KD Olopade from #NigerianNavy was awarded the #FOCINC SNC Rolling trophy for standing first in the overall order of merit. Four officers from #FriendlyForeignCountries (03 Sri Lanka and 01 Bangladesh) graduated as Observers after undergoing 30 weeks of training at Naval Air Operations School on 10 February 2022. Two officers from the #IndianNavy also graduated as Qualified Navigation Instructors (QNI) and were awarded Instructor Badges. Rear Admiral TVN Prasanna , Chief Staff Officer (Trg), #SNC was the Chief Guest for the event and awarded the ‘Certificate’ to Foreign trainees and ‘Instructor Badge’ to QNIs. The officers of 14th Foreign Observer Course underwent extensive training comprising Route Navigational sorties and operationally oriented Maritime Reconnaissance sorties including #SLOC monitoring, Search and Rescue. These officers would serve on-board Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft of their respective countries. The officers of 11th QNI course were trained at Instructional techniques and inculcated ethics on ground as well as during flying. They were also provided in-depth knowledge of tactics and sensor exploitation. The officers would function as Qualified Navigation Instructors at Naval Air Ops School before proceeding to take up operational assignments in various frontline Naval Air Squadrons. Lieutenant Commander Dishant Sharma was awarded the Book Prize on being adjudged ‘First in Overall Order of Merit’.
