Candace paused from where she’d been fastening the chain around her neck, letting the charm fall against her collarbone with a tiny bump. “What?”
Pinky’s eyes glittered and he barked. “Took a lot of work on mine and Carl’s part."
His voice was a little scratchy, more tenor than bass, with the lilt of a Mexican accent under his tone, and Candace choked at the sound of it. “Oh,” she managed, tears spilling over.
