As you can see from the green sections of the script, this episode contains a lot of anime-original scenes. Furthermore, the anime-original parts are cleverly connected, and the ending, where Frieren tries out the spell she acquired in the first half of the episode, while being wrapped up by the kraken and dragged into the sea, is so funny! I really love Himmel’s gentle smile and the voice actor’s voice in the flashback scenes. Do you know that the VA is the same person who voiced Genya Shinazugawa in Demon Slayer? Also, Frieren’s VA is the same person who voiced Anya in SPYxFAMILY, Concubine Gyokuyou and Princess Lingli in The Apothecary Diaries, and Hinatsuru (one of three wives of Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui) in Demon Slayer. I’m not very knowledgeable about anime or voice actors, but I’m truly amazed that the same VA can play so many different characters, even just in the shows I work on my blog.
After this episode aired, the beautiful illustration of Himmel drawn by the author was posted by the official X account, so I’m sharing it here.
Currently, the original manga is unfortunately on hiatus due to the author’s poor health. There are two authors, so it hasn’t been revealed which of them is unwell, or any further details. While I’m eager to read the continuation of the story, I sincerely hope that the authors will take their time and show us wonderful episodes once they have fully recovered.
It’s confirmed that the next episode will be the Season 2 finale. Whether the story will continue as a movie or as Season 3 of the TV anime will probably be announced soon after next week’s broadcast. I’m sad that Season 2 is ending, but I’m really looking forward to the sequel and can’t wait!

This phrase is only used for bad things. On the other hand, when it comes to good things, we say “〇〇のおかげで(〇〇no okage’de): thanks to 〇〇. In this episode alone, the phrase is used multiple times, as shown below.

Season 2 has finally come to an end, and the decision for Season 3 was announced at the same time. Many people including myself, had predicted a movie adaptation, but we are happy to hear that it will be a TV anime. The reason we predicted a movie was, of course, due to the budget issues of the animation studio. There have been movies for the series of TV anime shows, but they used to be original side stories separate from the main series, so even people who didn’t watch the movie had no problem understanding the story of the TV anime sequel. However, since the historical success of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie “Mugen Train Arc” in 2020, more and more TV anime shows have been adapting parts of the main story into movies. This is because the profits from the movie can be used to fund higher-quality sequels and improve the working conditions of low-wage animators. Under such situation, the production of Frieren Season 3 as a TV anime is very welcome news for us viewers, but I guess we should support them more and more somehow. The Golden Land Arc is so long, it is likely that Season 3 will consist entirely of the arc, with around 12 episodes.
Which episode is your favorite in Season 2? The most popular episode, generally recognized as the climax, is probably Ep. 36: “A Magnificent End.” The animation of the battles was truly amazing. The sequence where Stark throws away his axe, jumps unarmed onto the building and onto the windmill, tackles the Divine Revolte, and flying Genau catches him as he falls, then lets him pick up his axe and resumes his attack was anime-original scene, but it was fantastic. Apparently, in a recent character popularity poll, Genau came in first place. However, that popularity poll guaranteed the production of merchandise for the character who came in first place, so it was natural that the main characters, who already have merchandise available, didn’t get many votes. If it were a poll based purely on popularity, Himmel would probably be the undisputed number one.
Personally, my favorite is Ep. 37: “Himmel’s Memoirs. They’re just partially written memoirs of trivial everyday life, but the way the memoirs he wrote ended up in Frieren’s hands across time was wonderful. If Frieren hadn’t wasted money and had a lot of it, she wouldn’t have been able to get the memoirs. I think this feeling that “all events, the thoughts and actions of many people are connected to the present” is precisely Frieren’s “世界観（せかいかん/Sekai’kan）.” Google AI suggests that the word 世界観 is a fundamental way of seeing and perceiving the world and life, and what meaning and value one finds in it, and that in English it’s worldview. One overseas reactor used the word Frieren’s "universe,” which was translated as 世界観 by a Japanese on Youtube, and I like that. I really love the Frieren’s universe. (I think Demon Slayer also has the same underlying theme. While Frieren focuses on their daily life after her journey to defeat the Demon King, Demon Slayer focuses on the battle to defeat Muzan Kibutsuji, but both stories are based on around 1000 years history and have the similar themes.)
Now that I’ve transcribed the scripts for Season 2, I’d like to share the line that left the biggest impression on me as follows;

I really like the line because it feels like expressing Himmel’s deep kindness and compassion, which isn’t just superficial.
There’s still a year and a half until Season 3 airs. On X, I’ve seen a lot of posts from Japanese fans saying, “I have to live until then!” Because Frieren cherishes everyday life, it makes us viewers want to cherish our own everyday lives, and it feels like a “reward” to be able to watch new episodes in the future. Until Season 3 starts, I plan to work on other shows’ episodes remained, and revise some of my past scripts, but I’m still open to your reactions and requests, so please let me know if there’s anything. (I’ve been wondering whether I should translate the short videos titled “〇〇の魔法（まるまるのまほう/Maru’maru no Maho）” on the official YouTube channel. If I translate the original Japanese into English directly, it’d be “So there are towns on the Northern Plateau, too.” I think “too” is necessary here, since the original Japanese has the phrase 北部高原に“も”.

This phrase was a common saying that samurai used to say before important battles.
Methode “Oh, you really are astute. But it took you too long to notice. I’ve just finished analyzing the fog.”
In the original manga, the first line of the demon is what she actually said, but in the anime it seemed to be her thought since her mouth wasn’t moving. However, upon hearing that, Methode says the next line, so it doesn’t make sense, and I wrote the line as her saying. I wonder why they draw the anime that way.

Generally speaking, Japanese tends to use many ambiguous expressions, while English tends to use many clear ones. But in this line, it’s the complete opposite, which I found interesting. Moreover, it’s funny that the way Methode spoke sounded just like that of a parent or a superior.

The animation in these fights was really cool! Genau’s movements using his wings and Methode’s elegant movements were beautiful and captivating. A little was said about Methode’s clan, but there are still many things we don’t know, and I want to know more. The scene where Genau crawls towards Stark to save him before losing consciousness is not in the original manga, and the flashback of Stark and Genau’s previous partner saying Genau was a good person is also original to the anime. Genau said that he was not a good person, but deep down he wanted to be that, and he must have been happy that the two of them said that to him. It was a part where I could feel the love the anime production staff had for Genau. Fern is as cute as ever, when she gets jealous of Methode and hugs Frieren.
