“Liar.” A chuckle, though he did not stop himself from pouring out a shot and downing it, a shudder running down his spine as he had to blink a few times to regain focus.

“Is not the pursuit of science continued failures until success?”

Vexen raised an eyebrow as he noticed the other man awaken, and then mutter in what was clearly a state of confusion. Typical. If Vexen had to be completely honest, the man looked as if he were about to fall asleep the moment he boarded the train, almost as if he were intoxicated by what was clearly exhaustion. It was late, ideal for Vexen as it meant the entire carriage was empty apart from the sleeping prince. Unfortunately, he woke up, and even worse – Vexen would have to actually interact with him. “We passed Agrabah about seventeen minutes ago,” Vexen said before he turned his attention back out the window, watching the stars move past as they travelled between worlds. “I am unaware of which world you needed, you might need to get off at the next one to catch the returning train.” Might be expensive, but of course that was the other man’s fault.

Noctis had gotten on his train in a haze this evening; he never did well with long meetings, and the Council had droned on for so long that he was doing his best not to sleep in the middle of it. By the time he boarded the train to head out to Prompto’s neighborhood to crash at his place, he was almost dead on his feet. He knew he should have had Ignis drive him to and fro, but he thought taking the train would be fine. At this time of day, it was usually more or less empty. When he stumbled onto an entirely empty car, he figured it was his lucky day and settled in to nap. Which led to his current predicament. Noctis has slept through his stop before, it’s never the end of the world. The Insomnia line makes a loop, so worst case scenario, he’d have to ride along until the next time it arrived at his destination.

He’s never woken up on a train and seen entirely unfamiliar stars whizzing by the window. It’s not a tunnel painted to look like a planetarium. The vertigo he gets when he tries to peer down below and finds nothing but more space and more stars speaks enough to that. “Where.” He blinks tiredly at the older man, the only other occupant in the train. He is dressed kind of weird... “Where the hell is Agrabah? Which stop is the Insomnia riverside residential district?”

The worn, tired looking man seemed to share something in common with the young mage. A mutual feeling. One he had not expected to surface in a conversation with a practical stranger. He traded in eye contact with the clouded hues of the sky. Following this was a dismissive huff.

       “ Dark and light. . .                                      Tell me, old man. What of grey? Did you adhere so closely to the dark that you feel ill-suited for the light? Are you afraid of it? Perhaps you dread the effort changing course would entail. . . Whatever the reason, limiting yourself to walking in one direction, would surely create unnecessary limits. I supposeー if you wished oh so dearly for the light, you could start by lighting a flame. . . ”

“Huh-ya!” The chain yanked through the Dusk, disintegrating it in mere moments. A wry grin crossed the silver-haired boy’s face as he then spun to face the other three Dusks in the training room of the castle. He had only been brought to The World That Never Was not long ago, yet here he was, getting the hang of his new kurisagama and training on at least a dozen Dusks with it.

With furious hacking and slashing moments, he cut the gleaming sickle blade through two of the other Dusks, then flung the chain on the end through the third. Whisps of blackness trailed away as the Dusks were defeated. Breathing heavily, the silver-haired boy straightened his stance with a confident smirk. “Guess this isn’t as hard as I thought it would be,” he said to himself, unaware if anyone else was in the room.

The boy blinked, slightly confused by the words that left Even’s mouth. “That’s… Strange, coming from you.” ‘To say the Least…’ Was Even feeling alright? This outright complement didn't seem like him.

A startled yelp escapes the nymph as cold lips are crushed against her own, the constant current that flows though her veins along with blood sparking up, sending a shaking thrill down her spine. Without any thought, her arms grasped the front of his coat, clinging as if he were the only thing that held her from falling down down to her death. If she could focus on anything other then the sensation of his touch, she would tell herself that all of these are mere physical reactions, and nothing more. The few lingering embers of desire remaining within her ignited, burning brightly in her stomach, the feeling swiftly cascading down lower.

Quicker then she would have liked, Larxene shoves Vexen away, brutally interrupting any and all contact they shared. She tries to yell, to scream at him, but no words make it out, only the heavy panting of breath and wide, shocked eyes.

Once upon a time, the words that left the young boy’s lips may have cut Even deeply. His heart had ached from the memory of the woman he loved shrugging him off and telling him she needed her space, shortly before shuffling off the mortal coil was still fresh within him. Vexen, on the other hand, had no memory of such an encounter and no desire to be close to anyone. Rather than hurt, the comment caused a small scoff to  twitch on the corner of his lips. “Well if you enjoyed it then it wouldn’t have the desired effect, would it boy?” he asked – deliberately not bothering to use his name, as if he were just another boy, another thing, something else that could be very easily disposed of. “What of your touch though, boy? Does anyone enjoy that? Kairi perhaps?” he asked, his upturned expression growing into a smirk. He knew what would hurt, even if without his heart he couldn’t quite understand how such a pain would feel. “Or is she only interested in dear Sora? He is the chosen one after all… and you have so much darkness still in your heart. It’s hardly befitting for a princess of light now is it?”

It did hurt. 

There was no way to deny that it hurt, nor was there really a way to hide the fact that the blow struck home. All Riku could do was tighten his jaw against the blow and keep going as he always had. He had once wanted... and now knew better. He knew better than to believe that he had a chance in that idyllic life. What use was there to being bitter about it?

“And that’s how it’s gotta be.” Riku answered back, defiantly matching the green stare. “You’re too late in playing the jealousy card. They have my blessing. Pick someone else.”
