ANNA TORV as Olivia Dunham in FRINGE 1.17 (part 1)
S2. E13 ∙ What Lies Below
The fact that Olivia was fine until Peter was covered in blood.
At this point, she didn’t know how the virus spread so she was as much in danger as Peter or anyone really, because people near and far got infected.
But the moment she saw Peter’s hand covered in blood, the way he was scrubbing over his skin, she panicked. Not for her, for him.
S01 E04 - The Arrival
Thing I’ll pretend never happened (because the writers also forgot about it):
In the Pilot, when Olivia is first mentioning Walter to Broyles, she says he was born in 1946, but his dad died in 1944. Another time travel, kidnapping of a son from an alternate universe that we are not aware of?
Who is this guy that Olivia even hugs?
Favorite foreshadowing moment:
P: This isn’t about me. W: Maybe it is, Peter.
Biggest foreshadowing moment of the season. On my first rewatch, I was like that meme of DiCaprio pointing at the screen in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Most rewatchable scene:
The scene where Olivia notices the Observer. Walter and Peter bickering and talking in the background, and Olivia having her Sherlock Holmes moment. I’m pretty sure that on the original watch, that was the moment they got me. That was when I decided she would be my favorite character. Also, I’m pretty sure it was only after this episode that I learned about the Observers being hidden in every episode, which also got me excited about “what is going on in this show?”
Did I spot the Observer on my own? I’m feeling like Olivia this week. I saw him every time. 🤣
Oh, that guy: The actress playing the waitress is named Lisa Joyce. But until I checked IMDb, I was convinced she was the same actress who also plays a waitress in Ted Lasso (Edyta Budnik). Not even for a moment I consider the fact that this episode aired 16 years earlier.
If anyone understood this / has a theory, please help:
Why did this beacon show up in this episode? In 4x15, September said that he led Peter to the beacon because he needed Peter to activate it so he could find his way back, because the other Observers had hidden the universe from him and locked him out.
What is going on here exactly? He seems to be tracking its arrival. This looks like Observer tech, not something that happens randomly. Do we ever get more details about this? #Help
Your Alt-Livia is showing:
At the FBI building, when Peter comes to talk to her, when she first sees him, she has the tucked-behind-the-ears Olivia hair. She closes the door like Olivia, and at 5:56 Alt-Livia takes over. Her hair falls into her face, she leans on the wall, and gives Peter a quick up-and-down look that says, “I wish you were the one naked in this story, not Walter.”
But when he says he does not do well staying in one place, that sadness in her eyes… that’s our girl back.
Random thoughts:
Seriously, does the FBI not have the budget to put them in a hotel room with at least two beds?
So far, we have two sightings of sleepy, shirtless Peter and one of Olivia in her lingerie in a sensory deprivation tank. Although I still think they should not have put her in that situation so many times in season one, at least they are being somewhat equal when it comes to showing their leads without their heavy winter clothes.
I know that @candlelightreader is a big fan of “Peter the Whiner,” but I think I’m ready to move on to the Peter that I understand why Olivia would cross a universe for.
Not sure why Walter talks about his wife questioning his judgment, because in the flashback we don’t see her doing that. Both versions of her seem very on board with whatever he is trying to do to save Peter. Maybe they just needed a reason for tension.
Did Walter create a lie about the accident being on Thanksgiving night and having people waiting for them at home, or is this a plot hole? Because Peter was not taken from the other side on Thanksgiving.
Just listing The Rewatchables pod categories (as listed here) because I'm about to start a Fringe rewatch along with folks at this community. My major interest is the characters, as much as I love the lore and stuff. Will pull from these categories (originally meant for a film but I think they are great for a TV show too) to reflect on episodes. Very hyped to see what others think.
Also really thinking this is a great list for other TV show rewatches.
btw killing charlie francis might be one of the cruelest things ever done to olivia. the only close friend she's ever had was suddenly gone, and she barely could say goodbye. charlie just disappeared and she had to face it.
finally rewatching Fringe after many years. Some thoughts...
487 episodes and we have finally finished season 1
have to get up and change the disk. again.
Olivia!!!!!
John Noble is so young here. I mean relatively. Is Fields (Severance) Walternate if he crossed over and just chilled a tiny bit? Would innie!Fields be more like Walter?
what is up with all these recap scenes? did people really forget that much of the plot week-to-week?
Astrid! you really didn't have much to do this season, did you?
the writers really were just throwing stuff at the wall to see what stuck, huh?
Olivia!!! *hear emoji*
I do adore her relationship with here sister, but where the heck does everyone sleep in that apartment?
I do kind of adore the location titles, not to much the sense flares though. Just because you can do that doesn't mean you should. Not all the time. Put that back in your toolbox JJ.
Olivia being so low-key angry all the time. I don't think I appreciated that properly the first time around.
Charlie Francis, Partner, Friend, skipper of leg day. You will be missed.
They really just break into people's houses all the time, huh? This show is three different genres inside a cop procedural show at the beginning.
Jared Harris was really underused. Really wish they would have developed that plot line a little more.
Fringe 5.05 - "An Origin Story"
"I love you" "I love you too"
