FRIORI BACKSTORY COMIC WEEEEEE (Tumblr please don't wreck the resolution I beg you)
Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the rough sketch, I seriously appreciate it!!
Headcanon that Friede was bullied growing up(as the smart kids often are), and it's usually Orla who would come to his rescue. But the moment he overheard those jerks saying mean things about his bestie, well. He couldn't just let them off the hook hehe.
Doing this comic has filled me with the desire to draw more young friori, especially Orio. How did she get metagross and elekid? What would her Trainer Fit look like? How did she deal with being seperated from her best friend? Why did she and Friede seemingly lose touch?
So many questions and I have headcanons for all of them EHEHE maybe I'll get into them in a future post.
methinks the prompt was like uhhhh,,, date,,, coffee,,, comfort,,, yee😋😋✨
So yah!! Friede and Orla on a coffee date!! And then Friede slips on a banana peel and spills coffee all over himself while Orla comforts him with a wet wipe :333
After Friede left, Liko gave the small Friede plushy toy to Orla. Friede's childhood friend looked very happy. Liko also thinks a Roy plushy would be nice! 🧸💕
four times someone found out Orla was pregnant, and the one time Friede finally found out

Had this idea for about a week and finally wrote it. Hope you all enjoy!
1. Orla
Orla’s been feeling unwell for the past few weeks, since Friede left to help out his friend from the Devon Corporation with something. She’s sure he also somehow squeezed in a visit to the Mossdeep Space Station during his little trip to Hoenn, too, though she won’t have any proof of that until Friede comes back. Seriously, how is it that Friede was spending more time in Hoenn than Orla? She was the one who lived there during their teenage years.
Anyways, she’s been throwing up regularly and even the smell of Murdock’s usually delicious meals made her stomach uneasy. While she had her suspicions, Orla didn’t decide to go out to buy a pregnancy test until her period was a week late.
Now she stared at the two pink strips on the plastic device in her hand. Her green eyes glanced at the other two matching tests on the countertop.
She was pregnant.
Orla put her head in her hands. What was she going to do? How would Friede react? They never even spoke about having kids. What about the ship? Would they just live here on the ship with their baby? That couldn’t be a stable way to raise a baby, they would need a house. Orla wouldn’t mind moving back to Hoenn where her parents were. She also really liked Kalos and Paldea.
The other part of Orla felt giddy. She knew she wanted kids for a while now, and looking after Liko, Roy, Dot, and now Ult made her want them even more. It would be hard to do the maintenance work on the ship while pregnant, as all of the fumes and heat would be bad for her and the baby. She would figure it out with Friede.
Wait… how was she going to tell Friede?
Orla put her head in her hands and groaned. She needed to talk to someone.
2. Mollie, Murdock, and Ludlow
“Mollie, I need to talk to you!” Orla burst into Mollie’s medical office on the ship. Her eyes widened when she saw Murdock and Ludlow also there with their pokemon. Mollie must’ve been doing checkups.
“Is everything okay, Orla?” Mollie raised an eyebrow, concerned. “Is something wrong with Metagross or Elekid?” Murdock and Ludlow also looked concerned.
“Um, no they’re fine. It’s something else…” Orla was only really looking for Mollie, but Murdock and Ludlow would find out eventually. Unless Ludlow already knew of course. Orla swore that old man had some psychic ability that enabled him to know everything.
“What is it?” Mollie asked, petting Lycanrocc who hopped off the table.
Orla took a deep breath. “I… I’m pregnant.”
Mollie and Murdock’s jaws dropped. There was about five seconds of silence before smiles broke out on their faces. Murdock took it one step further with tears of joy streaming down his face. The older man gently enveloped her in a big hug that lifted her off the floor.
“Oh, Orla, congrats! I’m so happy for you!” Murdock cried. “I knew this day would come. You and Friede are going to be the best parents ever!”
Murdock’s reaction made Orla let out a relieved laugh. The immediate support was so wonderful to have. “Thanks, Murdock,” she said as he set her down.
“Is that why you haven’t been eating some of my food? And why you’ve been staying away from the kitchen? The smell must be making you nauseous!” Murdock realized. “Don’t worry, I’ll figure out something you can eat that doesn’t make you feel sick!”
Mollie was up next to give her a hug. “Congrats, Orla. I’m happy for you. And I expect you to be here for regular check ups. No more working in those boiling temperatures on the ship, okay?”
Orla laughed again. “I know, I know.”
Ludlow spoke. “I knew you were with child. Something had shifted with you.”
“Knew it,” Orla said under her breath as she gave Ludlow a hug.
“How did Friede react?” Mollie asked curiously. “I bet he cried more than Murdock.
“Hey, I’m just so happy!” Murdock sniffed. “I bet he’s on his way on Charizard’s back right now. He’s probably telling Charizard to fly faster and faster.”
Orla froze. Her friends all thought she told Friede already, when the truth was that she was too nervous to tell him.
“I didn’t tell him yet,” Orla said sheepishly.
“WHAT?!” Mollie and Murdock exclaimed.
Orla was screwed, she realized, as the two adults threw questions and statements her way while Ludlow observed the show.
“This isn’t going to end well,” Mollie groaned.
3. Liko, Roy, Dot and Ult
Liko was walking through the halls, Terapagos in her arms. She was heading toward Dot’s room because she asked her to come. Right before Liko raised her fist to knock on her door, it opened and Dot pulled her in.
“Ah!” Liko gasped out of surprise. Dot’s arms balanced her and Pagogo and Liko saw that Roy and Ult were already here, too. Ult spun on Dot’s chair while Roy settled on the floor at Dot’s bed. Liko and Dot took their seats on her bed.
“We’re all here, now what’s so important?” Ult asked, spinning.
“I found something,” Dot revealed, playing with her hands.
“On the Explorers?” Roy asked.
“No, nothing to do with them. I found three positive pregnancy tests in the trash of the bathroom the girls share,” Dot revealed. “It’s a hundred percent Orla, I know it.” Mollie was the only other woman on the ship, and she liked girls only.
Liko lit up. “Orla’s pregnant? That’s amazing!” Orla’s baby would be so cute, Liko just knew it. Orla was one of the prettiest women she’s ever met.
“She’s going to have a baby?” Roy asked in wonder. “That’s awesome! Orla’s gonna be the best mom!”
Ult, who usually wasn’t interested in stuff like this, even perked up. “That’s cool for her.”
“I wonder how Friede reacted?” Liko wondered. She imagined Friede would be rushing back to the ship to see Orla. It was easy to picture the white haired man dropping everything to come be with Orla, like a scene from a movie.
Dot shrugged, a smile on her face. “I’m sure he’s overjoyed.”
“We should get her something!” Liko exclaimed. “I’m sure she’ll tell us in her own time, but when she does, we can surprise her with a gift!”
The others thought for a moment. “Well, we are docked for a week. We can go into town and do some shopping,” Dot said thoughtfully. “Maybe we can ask Murdock and Mollie for some extra cash.”
“That’s a good idea!”
With that, the four of them ventured over to the kitchen, where Murdock was whipping up some dessert. “Hi kids, what are you all up to?”
Dot twisted her foot on the floor. “Can we have some extra cash? We wanted to buy something for Orla.”
Murdock put his silicone spatula down in his mixing bowl and turned to face the kids. He wore a suspicious expression. “Why do you want to buy something for Olra? It’s not her birthday.”
“It’s a special occasion,” Liko cut in, looking up at Murdock. He raised his eyebrow and crossed his arms. He and Dot had an impromptu staring contest until Murdock broke.
“You know something, don’t you?”
Dot was quick to respond. “Do you know something?” She raised a purple eyebrow.
Roy and Ult merely glanced between the uncle and niece duo. The two most talkative people on the ship were silent as they observed the scene unfolding before them.
“Maybe I do know something,” Murdock said slowly.
“Well, maybe we know something too.” Dot returned his tone, leaning forward.
The atmosphere was so thick, they could cut it with one of Murdock’s knives or with Meowscarada’s Magical Leaf. After a minute of this, Murdock broke. “I am not looking forward to your teenage years,” he mumbled. “Okay kids, you win. You know that Orla is pregnant?”
The four kids nodded and Liko spoke. “We found her pregnancy tests in our bathroom,” she said, not wanting Dot to get all the blame for unveiling Orla’s secret. Dot gave her a small smile as thanks.
“And you want to get her a present. That is so sweet! Of course you can have some extra cash. Now, don’t stay out too late, okay? We don’t want to stress Orla out.” Murdock explained as he handed Dot some cash from his wallet.
“We won’t, thanks Murdock!”
Later, the kids came back to the ship with their present for Orla. Murdock had let Orla know that she should tell the kids, so she gathered them all in the dining room to announce her news. All of the kids presented her with a bouquet of flowers for her and a Metagross plush for the baby.
Tears filled Orla’s eyes at how incredibly thoughtful the kids were. “Oh, thank you guys!” She enveloped them all in a group hug. Everyone reiterated how happy they were for her.
Then the age old question inevitably came. “How did Friede react when you told him?”
Mollie facepalmed and Orla had to force out “I didn’t tell him yet.” She chuckled nervously and ran a hand through her hair. “But I will! When he gets back from his trip!”
“But I’m sure he would cut his trip short to come back,” Liko pointed out, her blue eyes wide.
“That’s what I said,” Mollie mumbled.
“Look, I just don’t know how to tell him. I’m a bit nervous,” Orla admitted.
Roy tilted his head. “But Friede would be so happy! I don’t think it matters how you tell him.”
Dot nodded in agreement. “Roy’s right! If anything, Friede will start babyproofing the ship immediately. He would probably rope us into it, too.”
Orla smiled at the kids’ optimism and figured they were right. This was Friede they were talking about. He loved her and she knew he loved kids. Everyone saw how good he was with the current kids on the ship. Friede would be a great father.
Maybe she should tell him soon.
4. Spinel
Orla walked through the city they were currently stopped at. The crew decided to spend a day here, especially since they all needed new supplies for the ship. Thankfully all Orla needed was a new wrench that was a specific shape. A hardware store had exactly what she was looking for so now she was simply enjoying some fresh air with Metagross.
It wasn’t often the big pokemon was able to walk around. Metagross was too big to roam the halls of the Brave Olivine.
“Isn’t this nice, Metagross?” Orla asked, petting the steel type pokemon on the head.
“Meta!”
Orla smiled at Metagross and they continued walking. They walked by a narrow alley that had an exit on the other side and then Orla took a few steps back to investigate. Was that blue hair she saw?
Sure enough, that familiar light blue mane turned around and her green eyes met blue-pink ones. It was the man who was responsible for the difficult times the Rising Volt Tacklers had to deal with.
“Spinel,” Orla gasped. Metagross pumped itself up behind her, ready to battle.
Spinel tilted his head while his Umbreon came out from behind his legs. “Orla Byrne. Resident mechanic of the Brave Olivine. We finally met face to face.”
Immediately, Orla whipped out the wrench she just bought out of her shopping bag and held it back, ready to throw it at Spinel’s face. It looks like he was surprised to see her, which means he didn’t know the RVTs were here and thus he didn’t know where the ship was. “What do you want, huh? A battle, or a good old fashioned fight between you and I?”
Spinel merely raised an eyebrow, but Orla saw something akin to fear flash in his eyes. “You are very different from those unruly children and your precious professor. Terribly sorry about your loss,” he said dryly.
Loss… Spinel didn’t know Friede was still alive, Orla realized. How did she forget that? “A fight between you and I it is, then.” Orla stepped forward with the wrench, determined to get a hit in. Exceed already destroyed the RVT’s reputation in the news, what else could Spinel do? They were a man and a woman in an alley, surely anyone would think Orla was acting in self defense.
Suddenly, Umbreon jumped in between them, hissing at Orla. Then it climbed onto some abandoned crates at the side to get higher to hiss at Orla again.
Then, Umbreon paused near Orla’s stomach. “Um? Umbe,” Umbreon’s tone shifted to something more gentle as its nuzzle moved closer to Orla’s stomach.
Huh? What was going on? Did Umbreon somehow sense that Orla was pregnant? But how? She hasn’t heard of any pokemon being able to do that, and if there were, she would assume psychic pokemon would have that capability. Though Hatterene didn’t sense it on the ship, right? Liko said they found her pregnancy tests and that was how the kids found out.
“Fascinating,” Spinel mumbled. “You’re pregnant, aren’t you?” When he saw Orla’s grip tighten on her wrench, he put up two hands in surrender. “Even I wouldn’t dare fight a pregnant woman. Now you aren’t even showing, which means you recently got pregnant. Now who could the father be?”
“None of your business.” Orla still considered throwing the wrench. It would be worth the jail time.
“Now it can’t be your dear professor, as he is dead and gone.” Spinel’s eyes narrowed at her.
Orla’s eyes narrowed again. “Obviously.”
“According to my research, the two of you are childhood friends. We never found any mention of a relationship between the two of you, but it is possible to miss some variables,” he continued in that creepy, cold voice.
“You know what, go fuck yourself, Spinel.” Orla held the wrench toward him as she backed away with Metagross. Spinel stayed in the same spot, knowing that Orla wouldn’t hesitate to throw her wrench at him.
Orla hopped on Metagross and they levitated away. She quickly took out her Rotom phone and sent a message to their RVT group chat, warning them about Spinel being in the area.
She was so scared that Spinel would get to the rest of the crew and hurt them that she didn’t pay attention to the group chat she had clicked on.
She didn’t realize that she sent the message to the group chat without Friede, the one they used when he was gone.
5. Friede
All Friede wanted to do was buy a bouquet of flowers for his beautiful, genius girlfriend. It wouldn’t make up for the fact that he was gone for a couple of weeks, but he was bringing good news - he quit being an astronaut. He only became one so he could investigate Laquium, and now that part was done. Friede had some loose strings left that he had to tie up, and it was the least he could do after everything Steven and the Space Center did for him.
Helping them out with a couple of favors was a small price to pay, but he put his foot down and said he was dedicated to his crew. Friede also may or may not have talked about Orla a lot, too. Now everyone there wanted to meet her.
That was how Friede found himself a town over from where the Brave Olivine was docked, a large, colorful bouquet in his hands. He was sure that Orla would give a few of the flowers to the kids, which made him love her even more. But what else could he get her? Some new tools? Various pieces of metals? That would make her smile. Honestly, between Steven Stone’s love of rocks and Orla’s love of metals, maybe Friede should introduce them.
He was lost in thought about Orla and wondering how he got so lucky until a voice behind him spoke. “My suspicions were correct. You are alive.”
Friede would recognize that cold voice anywhere. His fist around the flower stems tightened and he turned around. “Spinel. You really love stalking me, don’t you?”
Spinel smirked. “Who are the flowers for?” Friede’s glare intensified. “Is it for a certain mechanic named Orla Byrne?”
Friede’s heart stopped. How did he know about him and Orla? “Don’t you dare say her name, or the names of anyone else on my crew.”
“Hm. When I met her, she immediately threatened to throw a wrench at me and challenged me to a physical fight. Her attitude is more fiery than your Charizard.”
“What do you mean, when you met her?” Friede demanded, taking a step closer. “Did you hurt her?”
Spinel placed a hand over his heart and feigned offense. “Of course not. Even I wouldn’t stoop so low as to hurt a pregnant woman.”
The world froze. Orla was pregnant? How did Spinel know? Why didn’t she tell him? It didn’t matter if Friede was a whole world away, he would’ve flown on Charizard to get to her. “What are you talking about?”
Spinel blinked. “You didn’t know? Your girlfriend is pregnant. Umbreon here sensed it.” That was when Friede noticed the small pokemon near Spinel’s legs. “Well, I’ll take my leave, then. It’ll be no fun to battle you when your mind is focused on someone else.” With that, Spinel turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Friede standing dumbly there on the street. Only one thing was on his mind - he had to get to Orla.
~~~~~~~~
Orla was working on some upgrades on the ship outside with her new wrench. It was nothing serious, she just had to replace a few things. Her pokemon were scattered around playing and enjoying the fresh air.
“Orla!” Someone called her name. She knew exactly who it was and put down her wrench to turn around. Friede was there, holding a bouquet of flowers while the slight breeze blew his white hair.
A smile broke out on her face. “Friede!” She ran towards him and jumped into his arms. He spun her around as she laughed. When he finally put her down, she kept her arms around her neck and his hands remained wrapped around her waist. “I missed you.”
Friede smiled at her. “I missed you too, Orla.” His expression morphed into concern. “Are you okay?”
Orla blinked. “Yeah, I’m fine. Everyone’s fine.” His face was still worried so she placed a hand on his cheek. “What’s wrong?”
“I ran into Spinel in the next town over,” Friede revealed. Orla gasped.
“What? I thought you were going to be careful, I told everyone that he was around!”
Friede blinked. “You didn’t tell me anything.”
“Yes I did, I sent it to the group chat - oh wait, maybe I clicked on the wrong one,” Orla realized. She often mixed the two group chats up. They had one with Friede, and one without him. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” he assured her, rubbing her arms up and down. “He said that he saw you and I was terrified that he hurt you. Then he said you threatened to throw a wrench at him and wanted to fight him yourself.”
Orla smiled sheepishly. “Yeah, that’s true. For a moment, he looked scared.”
Friede chuckled at that. “That sounds about right. But he also said something else.”
Orla’s heart raced. The only other thing Spinel could’ve possibly said was that she’s pregnant. So, she blurted it out, because she was not going to let that cowardly bastard ruin this moment for her. “I’m pregnant.”
Friede’s eyes widened and he smiled widely. He picked her up and spun her again before enveloping her in a big hug. “Orla, I’m so happy. I haven’t been this happy since you told me you loved me for the first time.”
Orla let out a sigh of relief. “I was so nervous to tell you. And to think it was Spinel of all people who told you…I’m going to kill him.” Orla pulled away and started walking to get her wrench. “I’m gonna hit him with this very wrench-”
“Orla, Orla,” Friede jogged in front of her to stop her. “Please don’t kill or fight anyone while you’re pregnant. I can’t stand the thought of anything happening to you or our baby.”
“Are you trying to tell me what to do, Friede?” Orla put her hands on her hips.
Friede went pale. “No, no, not at all, never. I am begging you not to do anything that could bring harm to you. Please?”
Orla smiled softly. “Okay, I won’t.” She grabbed his hand. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” Their lips met in a passionate kiss that Orla wished lasted forever. When they finally pulled away, she said “Oh, and there’s something else.”
“What is it?”
“Everyone on the ship knows. The kids already bought the baby a present. So did a few of the gym leaders they know. Liko’s dad mailed over copies of his picture books. And another gift arrived that I’m pretty sure is from Amethio, Onio and Zirc,” Orla counted off on her fingers.
“How am I the last to know?!” Friede moaned, making Orla laugh.
Chat if you see this blog, just ignore it. Seems to be a troll by the obvious rage baiting, and the pfp looks to be NSFW of Orla aswell?? Please don't give them any attention.
(I went ahead and blocked them, so they shouldn't see this post.)
