Frobin Week Day Seven Theme: Mamhlapinataei Word count: 1410 Notes: I’ve had this idea for a while, and have been wondering whether to use it for Frobin week or not. It fits the prompt pretty well though, so I decided to kind of half-do it for now. I will be reusing this idea in the future however as a longer, more in-depth and past-tense oneshot based after ‘After the Rain’ and before a sequel. Also, all of my works this week have been from either Robin or Franky’s perspective. You’ll find this one it a little different in that sense (:
They’re up early. Sanji glances at the ship’s archaeologist and shipwright who’ve risen with the sun. He notes the way they greet each other in the cool morning air with both an enthusiastic exclamation and a quiet smile. Sanji finds himself smiling too. They seem happy. He stands from the place he’s been camped in for a few hours (he had the second watch tonight) and heads towards the kitchen to begin preparing breakfast. As he passes them, he displays his usual greeting and offers to bring Robin a coffee, which she gladly accepts. As Sanji heads into the galley and closes the door behind him, he’s sure he sees the two walking along the deck together to watch the sunrise.
…
After breakfast, Chopper is cleaning out a cupboard in the infirmary. He discovers a storybook tucked away at the back. He is unsure of how exactly he obtained the book, only that it’s been there since before the incident two years ago. However, he knows how much Robin loves books and that she will appreciate him showing it to her. So he finds her out on the grass by the swing and hands her the book. Robin flicks through the first few pages, before offering to read him one of its many stories to which Chopper excitedly listens on. Halfway through, Franky comes over to listen. He sits in the grass beside Chopper and Chopper wriggles closer to the cyborg, who, in turn, pulls him into his lap. They both listen as Robin continues the story. When the story is nearly finished (just when the prince is about to kiss the princess), Robin glances up momentarily and looks at Franky. Chopper looks on. Franky is also looking at Robin. They are just staring at each other, their eyes locked in contact. Chopper doesn’t understand what’s going on. But after a moment, Robin continues her reading.

Frobin Week Day 7 - Mamhlapinataei
*Mamihlapinatapei: The wordless yet meaningful look shared by two people who desire to initiate something, but are both reluctant to start.
I watched One Piece Z last night, it was pretty good. I had decided to use those outfits before hand though...
I couldn't make them look too reluctant but whatever. I'M FREE! Well except that I still have to finish my cosplay for AN and answer all of Madame Shyarly's Asks... Remind me not to participate in too many pairing weeks again, I'm too much of a procrastinator for it ;_;
Understand
Frobin Week - Day 6 - Understand - 496 words
~
Hers is a family that understands.
Her captain, with his intuitive awareness of heavy hearts and melancholia, always ready with a diverting new clapping game or a novel combination to add to their ever-growing secret handshake.
Ro~bin~! If you laugh you’ll be happy!
Her swordsman, never trusting her with his own back but always there to cover hers, on the ship or in battle, his katana not so much whistling as howling to fell her foes, even before she comprehends the danger--and, sometimes, even when she has more than enough hands of her own.
Idiot, you don’t have to fight by yourself anymore.
Her navigator, her confidant, the sister she never believed she would find, in the dead of night lifting the covers for her, no questions asked--or, if she cannot escape the nightmare’s snare herself, sliding in next to her, arms a warm firm reminder.
Shh, shh, you are not alone.
Her sniper king, a riveting tale always on the tip of his tireless silver tongue when she needs a distraction the most: tales of perilous journeys, of damsels shackled in towers of phantom justice and the tenacious courage required to brave the obstacles ahead.
Robin! Have faith in us!
Her cook, even after two years apart, still so acutely attuned to her sleeping patterns as to have a pot of coffee already brewing and a heaping plate of oven-fresh coffee cake for her with an ample side of idle chatter when she sidles in, hours before dawn.
Robin-chwaan~ You’ll never go hungry another day so long as I live!
Her doctor, ever attentive, never a word needed for him to know when she requires a little something extra to drift off at night. Some nights, no more than a warm mug of his excellent tea sends her nodding off into the land of dreams; other nights she needs a pill or two, carefully concocted and slipped into her hand with nothing but a murmured instruction. Still other nights, all she wants is his wooly company to read beside, until one or the other of them drops off to sleep.
Robin! I’ll keep even your heart in good health!
Her musician, invariably materializing from the dusky mantle of a lonely watch night to fill the hushed air with sweet silvery ballads.
Robin-san! One must also remember to nourish the soul! Yohoho!
Ah, but Franky, always with his greetings, “Robin! Suuuper good morning to you!” or “Don’t you look super this morning!” or, her personal favorite, “Robin! Aren’t you a Suuuuper sight for sore eyes~!” after a particularly late night in the workshop, with inflamed eyes and grease spots on his face and shirt.
It’s not the words he speaks that set him apart from the others, but the reminders woven between them. Isn’t it Suuuper to be alive today? That broad toothy grin, I told you so!
Live, Robin!
I’m super glad you chose the sea.

Robin stared at the Baby Den-Den Mushi on her palm. “Franky,” she pronounced the name clearly and carefully, “I do believe I told you to approach this situation with care.”
“But I have,” the cyborg insisted in a static-ish crackle from the other end of the line, “Can you tell where I am? Is it super?”
Robin felt the urge to sigh, but hid her frustration. “That’s the point,” she said, “I’m not supposed to be able to guess where you are. I told you to approach with care, not air. I can’t believe you coup-de-bursted yourself right in here.”
The plan was going right out the window.
“Well the bros and I might have misheard. This line isn’t very clear, you know…”
Robin was about to voice her agreement and suggest how they might approach with care, when Franky spoke again.
“Approach with flare, was it? I’m on it.”
There was a rattling as Franky evidently set the receiver down. Robin heard him give orders to some of the others, before an explosively loud firework streamed into the air above from about three kilometres away and flowered across the sky in an almighty crackle.
There was a rattling from the other end of the line as Franky once again picked up the receiver. “How was that?”
Robin sighed this time. “You misheard me again.”
“Approach with hair?” there was a quick pause before a bouncing sound was heard, indicating Franky had released a torrent of hair from atop his head.
“No. Approach with care. C-A-R-E.”
“…Care?”
“Yes,” Robin said in almost exasperation.
“…Oh…”
From the background, Robin heard Chopper panic something about approaching marines. “I’ll be with you in a moment,” she said.
“Hey, Robin?” Franky said before she could hang up.
“Hmm?”
“Approach with care.”
“I will. More so than what you did, at least.”
She hung up the Den-Den Mushi’s receiver and found herself smiling despite the situation. Then she was chuckling. And then she was laughing so hard her sides hurt.
