Been working on some new illustration portfolio pieces for my agents at Bright. Decided to take some of my favorite books and do covers in my own style for them. The first one I thought about was my favorite book series: "Frog and Toad" by Arnold Lobel. I remember the first time I discovered Frog and Toad when I was in kindergarten growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii. My teacher read it to us and was one of my favorite reoccurring books during story time.
When we graduated kindergarten, our teacher gave each of us a book that she thought we'd love. I received "Frog and Toad are Friends". I don't know if she picked this book because she may have known about me being gay. But I did connected to this book because of Frog and Toad's close friendship.
So in my version, Frog and Toad are younger, and live in Hawaii and wear flip flops. And like me as a kid loved grape jelly sandwiches and strawberry soda. lol
