i dont remember every detail exactly but the canon reason that mrs sakasaki raised natsume as a girl was because he was very sickly as a child. There's this superstition that evil spirits would leave little girls alone or something so occasionally sickly little boys are dressed and treated as girls until the evil spirits are cleansed and they become healthy again. If anyone spots any discrepancies here pls correct me its been a while. Over all it sounds kinda convoluted tho i like transmasc natsume better as an explanation.
