“i know you may not think it necessary, but zeus insisted i accompany you on your errands today. something about rising tensions,” poseidon muttered awkwardly. “i know you’re capable of taking care of yourself, but i’m hardly stupid enough to deny him. if...you want, we can pretend like it’s not me being your bodyguard, though. for all intents and purposes, i could just be helping with errands? i’m good at carrying bags?”

“i know you don’t do what you do for the praise or commendation,” poseidon began. well, obviously-- if hades did do it for the praise, he’d surely be at the end of his rope by now. zeus was hardly a logical or forward thinker, and most of hades’ actions were met with backlash, even when zeus did see their merit a little farther down the line. “but you still deserve it. it may not mean as much coming from me, but the triad wouldn’t run half as well without you here.”

“you’re a lot smarter than people give you credit for. though, i’m sure you know that already,” poseidon mused, offering athena a small smile. “you’re a gifted warrior and strategist, and yet you chose a position in which you would be the one in charge, as opposed to one over-saturated by hot-headed alpha males. i mean, i don’t doubt you enjoy it, but....it makes a lot more sense to me now than it did initially, i must confess.”
