It's refreshing to see that other runners get nervous about long runs. Right now for me, 13.1 miles is a daunting thought. I even think like that on 6-8 mile runs.

I get nervous about long runs too. 20 is my mental barrier. I've done it dozens of times in the last year and I still don't think I can do it when I start.

I find your confession very comforting. I had butterflies for forever every time I would go out and run more than 10. I thought it was just me. :)

Also doing 17 miles! Also terrified!
It's amazing to see that no matter how races or miles you run, there's still a little bit of doubt in the back of your mind. That's probably why runners are awesome: we're really good at facing our fears, taking them on and then looking back and saying "that wasn't SO bad."

I would defer -- you don't want to risk injuring yourself more by pushing before you're ready!

Maybe defer? It depends on what your goals are! It wouldn't hurt to let your hip have a break though! (:
My goal was to PR, so probably won't happen. And knowing myself there would probably be another minor thing like bad soreness or minor shin splints or something if I trained hard.

Cool medal!
I know! I hardly get medals for anything less than a ten miler so getting one for an 8K was nice. I think it might be better if it said "2014" somewhere on it, but oh well. It was the inaugural race and very well put together.

The tough ones are the ones that make us better!
This is true. I think the tough runs are the ones we learn the most from. You try to understand what went wrong and you find a solution as to not repeat that mistake. The physical difficulty of bad runs also helps your mental ability since it's a practice in pushing out those negative thoughts and powering through whatever's going on.
Betsy: and then on Sunday I can do a short 6-8 miler...
Me & Amy: *blank stares*
Betsy: I hear myself, I know.
