✨ HAPPY FOUR YEARS OF AMBITION ( 2019— ) ✨
hi!! I can't believe it's taken me this long to send an ask but I finally figured out how sksfjkhjk so as it's the festive season what are the main cast's best and worst Christmas (or in farkle's case Hanukkah) presents they've ever had?
So clearly it's no longer festive season (lol) but I am trying to be better about being active on here as we continue S4 so!! Apologies!!
I don't know that I could say one definitive answer for either (the spectrum of good and bad gifts is so long and so filled with variety, not to mention our feelings about a gift can change over time i.e. Farkle's initial prickly reaction to the nameplate from his dad that he now regards affectionately), but a sampling for each perhaps...
RILEY
Best: I would bet money this honor goes to Dylan, who probably got her something super sweet and thoughtful and so her for Christmas senior year after they'd been actual friends for a while and it was one of the first gifts in years where Riley actually felt Seen by the person and like they actually understood her as a person and that forever made it a lifelong winner. Even if it was just something like, a homemade / decorated frame with a photo from the RL DA summer road trip and then a friendship bracelet with her favorite colors. It's the thought, not the object, that makes a difference. Worst: Positive this dishonor goes to Topanga, who probably got her like, a book or set of inspiration cards specifically geared towards building her confidence which is a nice sentiment in theory but considering Topie is always openly being like lol Riley my sweet dumb doormat daughter, more passive-aggressive and critical than a ha ha sort of reception.
did you guys ever have voice casts for the characters? like people/singers you think the characters would sound like n all that? if so would you mind sharing them?
This is such an interesting question... admittedly, Es and I hadn’t really thought about it! We especially just think about the actual actors for those who already sing, but we can provide a couple other samples for each person if it intrigues you to know! Let’s see...
FARKLE | Corey actually does sing -- though not often in this version of reality -- but I do believe he has some professional training. We think of this song he’s recorded in particular, which I think is a really good example of how he sounds circa S1 in my head (this song is actually a bop. The YT version cuts out like 20 seconds too early but I found a version on Tumblr last year that was full so now I have it on my phone LMAO let’s go 2015 Corey). Anyway, it’s that pretty stereotypical power tenor vibe. A couple more comparisons I suggest are:
Jonathan Groff -- I think Jonathan Groff is the best comparison I can make. He’s theatrical, he has a pretty impressive range, but he rests pretty comfortably in the natural tenor range. Like he can do Kristoff one minute and King George from Hamilton the next, and I think that is equitable to Farkle’s range. The man key is that he’s a powerful vocalist. I think Farkle’s true center of his voice has a higher resting place than Groff, but it’s close enough. Example track: Bohemian Rhapsody. One of Glee’s best and an amazing display of Groff’s vocal range in one track. Farkle could match this beat for beat, flair for flair.
Chris Colfer -- I think that the flair Chris Colfer brings to a lot of his performances on Glee match well to Farkle’s vocal stylings as well (which is why he’s done a few performances with that version), but to be clear, I think Colfer’s voice is softer / higher than Farkle’s. It’s more about... emotion and inflection here than tone. Example track: Not the Boy Next Door. Farkle did this on the show, so you know we endorse it. This was also the track Esther brought up when I asked for her opinion.
Brendon Urie -- I think that Urie’s range is really akin to Farkle’s. I don’t think Farkle has at all the same kind of flair or inflection that Urie does (and Farkle is obviously more Broadway than radio), but on certain tracks I think it’s pretty cross applicable. Example track: Dying In LA
I’ll continue this under a read more to spare everyone who doesn’t want to read on because clearly this will be lengthy LOL.
if you had to associate the characters with popular memes, who would be what and why ?
you should know that this question got so heated between es and i that the first time we tried to answer it we got into a fierce debate and then had to table it for a bit LOL. clearly, memes are in the eye of the beholder. but in terms of overall energy / flavor, this is what we were able to land on
riley - kid laughing and then crying
farkle - dark kermit
maya - mariah’s “i can’t read suddenly”
zay - “and what about it?”
charlie - peace disappear guy
isa - kid smiling while house is on fire
lucas - chloe
asher - gavin
dylan - doge

Farkle -- gold / evergreen
Zay -- orange (of the rustic and sunset variety)
Maya -- baby pink / devil red
Isadora -- red
Charlie -- light blue / soft white
Lucas -- blue
Asher -- dark red / burgundy
Dylan -- yellow

Who is most likely to have random junk in their room/house? Like for instance my friend brought an inflatable drink holder shaped like a flamingo back home with her and it has a small cactus in it now.
dylan is the obvious answer. he’s the type to find junk on the street and be like wow WALL ART! (this obviously is refined when he shares space with asher). asher, charlie, and maya would not. dave is the king of this though — his entire room is a weird amalgamation of things (like the “chair” he has that’s just a dinosaur pool floatie).
riley has sentimental weird things, like rocks from the park or shells from the beach or scraps of paper. farkle has fancy trinkets his parents bought him to express affection but are just kind of random. lucas’s entire room is junk, but its not his — he basically has to live around the junk in his storage closet of a bedroom.
isa also has a few random things that she’s collected over the years in foster care, like old toys and worn books and ornaments she stole to decorate her space whenever she is. sometimes she doesn’t even know if something is her’s originally or not, but she keeps them anyway, since they’re one thing that’s constant — always there, no matter where she ends up.

do any of the characters have pets? want pets? any allergic to animals?
farkle currently has a gecko leopard named elphaba, which is about halfway thru its life expectancy. he got it when he was 8 and obsessed with large lizards from his report in class and to shut him up stuart was like here. a lizard. go nuts.
charlie has the family beagle skippy, who is honestly one of his best friends and confidante. skippy has seen it all, and would probably talk some sense into charlie way earlier in his life if he could speak human. he is just about 7 years old.
dylan has a huge st bernard named mr puff (yes, like spongebob). they got him when he was 8 and puff was basically a puppy, shortly after dylan’s mom passed away. dylan loves mr puff dearly and he is very popular amongst the techie crew when they hang out at dylan’s. lucas in particular loves him and always gravitates towards him during hangouts.
the babineauxs have two cats, and zay is pretty neutral on both of them. they were more jada’s pals, although he doesn’t mind when they come and sit with him (though he’s not often sitting around long enough for them to snuggle up). he’s open to having more pets in the future though.
isadora had a dog at a foster home from the past, and now “is roommates” with eric’s orange cat, annie. they tolerate each other. riley does not have pets, but i think she’s always thought it would be nice to have one. zay’s more shy and reserved cat likes riley a lot, so she draws in pets pretty easily.
lucas has no pets but my god does he want one. to have a dog... a big ol’ dog... mr puff is kind of lucas’s pet by proxy. asher has a turtle named tortimor (and no, he doesn’t realize the animal crossing connection), but lily takes more care of him than asher. turtles don’t... do much, you know. in the future however asher lets go of his reluctance towards dogs to adopt one with dylan, a rascally mutt named toto. altho he acts aloof, toto loves asher and he quickly grows to love him too and is definitely the favorite (and dylan finds it so funny how he acts casual but then will be so soft with toto... like the irony).
and maya has no pets and doesn’t desire one. she’s also allergic to dogs. dylan makes her sneeze often because of puff hairs, another reason to despise him. the end.

Can you make any comments on how much character development we will see for the gang in s3?
Every one of our mains will be facing some sort of change in the coming season, both internally and because of what time of their life they’re in -- graduation, looking towards the future, trying to decide what they hold onto versus what must bend to the impending new. Because of that, we can confidently say that every character will be undergoing pretty major character development.
How do you define yourself? Are those definitions outdated, can they be something else (or something more)? What happens if that definition you cling to is ripped away from you? What about if you think you know your plan, you’ve got it all figured out, but then factors arise that make you question everything? Is it okay to feel confident and sure in who you are and your purpose in this world, or is it naive and begging to be shattered? Or if you don’t feel confident, what lengths do you have to go and challenges do you have to endure to achieve that sense of self before everything else around you shifts? What sacrifices do you have to make to let other people in, to form deep bonds, to commit, especially with the truth that all of it might be futile when the end comes? All of this and more for our favorite A class kiddos... I can assure you, there’s plenty that will develop over the course of S3.
