PSA: 3rd party booking for any hotel might be cheaper but direct bookings will always take priority. Also- booking a "room type" through a 3rd party is NEVER a guarantee, only a recommendation. "But I paid more for my 2 queens". No- you paid more for the opportunity of getting a queen room with 2 beds. You are only ever booking a room with no guarantee that it will even be available to you upon arrival. Hotels overbook because there is a 50/50 chance someone will cancel and they are trying to get their 100% occupancy bonus. If you are traveling with a large group and need the extra beds please book directly through the front desk agent or the brand's app. I learned this the hard way when I was traveling with 6 ppl and we were moved to a king 1 bed after booking with expieda. That complaint against the hotel doesn't do anything, just allows the 3rd party to get you off their back. Literally, there is no repercussion for the hotel. This is not just for La Quinta but for EVERY hotel. My suggestion is to make a rewards profile for whatever hotel you are wanting. Even the lowest tier member will get exactly what they reserved. Unless you are traveling alone and don't care about your reservation being canceled PLEASE DO NOT USE A THRID PARTY. Especially if you are traveling with family or more ppl. If you've only ever used a 3rd party booking and this hasn't happened to you, you are extremely lucky. All I'm saying is that when I called one of my friends that works as a front desk agent for a hotel she said that she would never trust a 3rd party booking and explained everything I've just conveyed.
PS if it's a busy/holiday weekend and you are going to arrive at your hotel after 5-6 CALL THE FRONT DESK OF THE HOTEL YOU ARE STAYING AT and let them know an ETA and that you are on the way. After a certain time they WILL cancel the reservation on the off chance that you aren't going to arrive to check-in someone in front of them asking for a room.
I'm sorry this happened to you but hopefully this helps for next time.
