I'm 5 Episodes into Attack on Titan. Completely Blown Away!

The last scene in the trailer is easily one of my ten favorite anime scenes of all time! I usually only watch one anime series a year at most but this year I'm already several episodes into Psycho-Pass and loving it (think Minority Report meets Blade Runner in a 2D/3D hybrid anime), and THEN Attack on Titan comes along. Screw best anime of the year; this show is going to be famous.
I just finished episode 5 and suddenly Game of Thrones isn't the most intense & surprising series of the year. If the rest of the series continues at this bewildering and exciting pace then it's going to end up being included with the likes of Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Berserk as the best anime of all time. To give you an idea of what the show is about, here are some images and story details with mild spoilers:
The world's story is simple: man-eating giants exist so humans have to build an enormously high wall around their entire city to survive. After a century of peace within the walls the giants break past the first of 3 barriers and decimate the poor families that are forced to live in the outer sector that has the shortest wall.
The main character sees his mom get eaten and vows the typical save-the-world-revenge things you would expect, but episode 2 takes place a year later and shows how much he's failed to meet his goals. Episode 3 ages him and his friends another year, and after another tragedy he takes up his old pledge, but this time doesn't hastily take on the world solo. Instead they all join the military division that trains soldiers how to use the Medieval style harness/cable Spider-Man suits:
About a year passes between each episode until episode 5 when it (I think but we'll see) slows down after some jaw dropping plot events. It's been a pleasure seeing them age the characters' faces, outfits, etc in between each episode. I almost never read manga but I might make an exception for this storyline. I'm hooked. Even the art is amazing; it blends 2D with 3D and lays on thick edge lines to make some of the best anime faces I've ever looked at. It's still airing in Japan (and being translated into subtitled videos each week) and only 9 episodes have hit the net so far. Can't wait for the rest and I urge everyone to give the show a try!
Oh yeah, and there are ~15 side characters that the show is investing time into! That's what makes me confident that it can keep up the momentum every episode and go down as one of the best series of all time. It truly feels like a weird hybrid of Spider-Man and Berserk. If only Xam'd could have been this intense and exciting and surprising! Good music so far, too!
