This is an AU story. Emma isa rebel princess, and Hook and her are a couple for a while, much for Charmingand Snow’s disproving. Elsa is Emma’s childhood friend.I tagged it, but I will warnanyway. This is an anti-CS fic. Don’t read it if it’s not your thing.Sorry if this isn’t what youasked for, but in my defense, this was the only way I thought to keep the fanfictionfocused on Frozen Swan.To the ones who doesn’t shipCaptain Swan: don’t worry, this fanfiction does no favor to the ship. Iactually loathe it.
Elsa watched the couple before her with agony. Killianand Emma were getting married and, some weeks ago, when Emma asked her to beher bridesmaid, she was happy. Happyfor her friend, happy because she was invited to be the bridesmaid.
She never met Killian, and she just met Emma onceduring their adulthood, after Elsa’s isolation years. At that one time, twoyears after Elsa’s coronation, it became clear that their friendship hasn’tfade at all.
Since then, the two young women had exchanged manyletters. Emma telling Elsa about her most recent relationship with a young andhandsome pirate that her parents absolutely hated, and Elsa telling Emma abouther everyday life as a queen.
Elsa wastying the other woman’s hair in a perfect bun when Emma told her everything.
How shewas with Killian just to make her too-perfect parents mad (she shushed Elsa whenthe queen opened her mouth to say that she already knew that, and startedasking why the hellEmma was marrying him). How, at a certain night after some drinks, they hadslept together (and all started making a horrible sense in Elsa’s mind).
How,after some weeks, when her monthly bleeding didn’t come and she started feelingsick every day, Emma finally realized what happened (“Oh Emma!”Exclaimed Elsa, at that point). How her parents, sad but adamant, said it was amatter of honor that she married the father of her child. And how, when sheretorted she didn’t love him, her mother just said using the most horribletone: “You should have thought before acting, then.”
Elsa watched Killian pronouncing his vows and she knewas a fact that they were made by lies. The self-centered jerk! She knows Emmahad begged Killian to go away and leave her realm. She had even promised himgold. But he had rejected her offers.
No, Elsa was being unfair. Maybe he didn’t want to bea king, maybe he just wanted to be in his child’s life. Maybe there’s too muchHans in her head, and that’s why Elsa is so suspicious about the man. Perhaps herfeelings for Emma weren’t letting her think straight.
She turned to Emma’s horrified expression, thinkingabout how young she seemed. Even if Emma is almost five years older than Elsa, and surely more brave and daring. Emma, the hero of many battles, the mostfamous ogre slayer born since her parents’ era.
Emmabegan sobbing at that point and Elsa hugged her, trying to pass some comfort toher friend (what else she could do, after all?).
Anarranged marriage is a horrifying destiny to every young noblewoman, the endof all of their teenage dreams of having a true love. Even Elsa, who didn’tconsider herself a romantic person, had those. Emma… Emma, the product of truelove, probably had daydreamed during all her life about meeting her own truelove. It must have been awful to her discovering she would never have it.
Elsadidn’t know for sure how that happened, but suddenly Emma’s soft lips were onhers. It created a small pressure on her lips that, somehow, was making her heart beatquickly and strongly against her chest, as if the pressure was being made onit!
Elsa alsorealized the salty taste. Somehow, it made her remember the times during herisolation years when she opened her window and felt on her facethe salty air coming fromthe sea. It was a good memory, like the one Emma and her werecreating.
And then…the taste of magic. Hers? Emma’s? Theirs? Elsa didn’t know. She had neverkissed anyone like this in her entire life.
Elsa watched Emma starting speaking. How could she say lies in such a firm tone after what they had experienced together? How could Emmabetray her own happiness? Elsa can’t help but feel bitter about that, even ifEmma seems truly hurt, truly… broken.
No, Elsa couldn’t do this. She couldn’t hate Emma for makingthe right decision. She couldn’t be bitter about the woman she loved doing thething she is better doing: being a hero, being brave for her child.
“Don’tdo this,” asked Elsa, when they finally got themselves together.“Come to Arendelle with me. We can marry, your child could be myheir!” Elsa knows she’s being selfish and stupid by doing such a request, but,at that one time, she allowed herself to be the romantic one, to be the stupidone.
Emma, ofcourse, shook her head in exasperation. “I can’t do this. I can’t disgracemy parents like this, I can’t deprive Killian from his rights as this child’sfather, and I can’t deprive my child from their father.”
That’show Elsa saw herself watching Emma being promised to another person. Vowing tohonor a life in which she would never be happy. And Elsa watched all of thiswearing her best inexpressive face. Because she loved Emma and wanted to makeher life easier.
For thefirst time, she understood how Anna saved them four years ago: true lovemanifests through sacrifices.
