fruit review #70: star gooseberry/starberry
despite the name, these are not gooseberries. They are crisp small star shaped (sort of, 6-8 sides) berries that have one stone inside. I’d compare the texture to a crisp and very juicy apple. These berries are usually not eaten plain because they have a strong tannin/ astringent flavor. I have never had them as an ingredient in other dishes before, so I can’t vouch to the flavor in those cases.
To me, these taste like a tart, slightly grassy mulberry. There is no sweetness and a nice sour punch. I personally love the flavor, but unfortunately the astringency is super strong. Eating more than a few nibbles dries out your mouth severely. I hope I can try them in a dish some day, since I do enjoy the flavor!
Sometimes I get emotional about fruit. Like it’s so good and sweet and it GROWS from the EARTH and you can just eat it raw straight from the bush or the tree…
Glad blackberries dont even pretend with that "servings per container" stuff. Im eating them in one sitting
I love cherries 🍒 and persimmons 🍅 and peaches 🍑
my top favorite fruits ever
Just ate 8 plums for breakfast #fruitmaxxing
why don't you chop up some strawberries and maybe you'll calm down
