sometimes i think about how frump would work way less in any other visual medium : frump is. well. a dog. canonically not even like a humanoid/anthro dog creature, just a full dog who can talk and used to be human. portrayed in a more literal medium like film, he would just look like a dog and his romance with seraphima would be weirder and uncannier and harder to grasp, alienating him from us in the same way most of the other characters of the book treat him as just a dog ; but in theatre, frump is visibly a human in a dog costume, almost mirroring how in the text he is a human in a dog body. and in seeing his human face, it allows us to more easily see the humanity in him when the other characters don't
