I have an external hard drive where I store lots of family photos. I noticed the connection on it was loose, and rather than risk losing all those photos, I decided to see if I could get it repaired.
I took it to Best Buy/Geek Squad and the guy glanced at it. He told me it would cost $50 for him to send it away to be examined; and another $300 if they could recover the data. If the price had be around $100 I would have said sure, but $350 was enough to make me find other options.
So I took it to Fry’s Electronics. It was a little further out than my usual shopping area but I knew they also did repairs. The guy there looked at the external drive and said it probably was just the connection. He could put the drive into a new housing. It was repaired in less than 30 minutes and cost $10 for the housing and $18 for the service.
I saved $320 dollars. Thanks Fry’s!
