I wanted the drawer fronts to be in line with the curve of the face of the cabinet (which was taken from the grain of the wood itself), but also not project directly off the wall at a 90° angle. Not for the sake of making things difficult- mostly just to make it more inviting. The goal was to make something friendly and fun and warm and from Houston, to match the excellent people who commissioned this little cabinet. /////////////////////////////////////////// and done! Pearwood Shelf- Houston pear, curly maple, Port Orford cedar, brass hardware. More/hopefully-better pictures to follow, then it’s off to beautiful downtown Durham, North Carolina for the @furnituresociety “Home” exhibition! Drilling the countersinks for some tiny brass keyhole plates. I am so excited to finally get this beast of an old Clausing drill finally back up and running. There’s nothing like “this cabinet is due tomorrow and I cannot finish it until I fix this machine” to motivate you to fix the thing. This drill press just purrs like a non-mean kitten. The sound of a bit cutting through brass, with no chatter at all, I think maybe makes me happier than making big fluffy shavings with a just-sharpened handplane. I’m excited.
