Sofia and Blaise Zabini
{perfect elegance}
Blaise was conceived out of wedlock in 1979. As soon as Sofia found out she was pregnant, she packed her bags the next day and moved straight back to Italy knowing that the war raging in Britain was no place for a pregnant woman, especially a pregnant woman aligned with Voldemort.
Sofia married almost as soon as she landed in Italy with pureblooded man named Salvatore, charmed under a strong love potion. They were married little over a week after she arrived, with Salvatore telling his family that they had been in correspondence for months.
Sofia had never wanted a child, but as soon as she knew there was life blossoming in her womb a fierce protectiveness for her son overcame her. She wept the first time that she felt him kick, and knew she would do anything for her son.
Blaise was born in February of 1980, with Sofia telling people he was premature to explain his apparent swift arrival considering she had been two months pregnant by the time she married Salvatore.
There was little chance that Sofia would name her son after either her current husband or his true father, instead telling her husband firmly that her son was to be a Zabini. It was the only name worthy of him, her only son and heir to her fortune.
When Blaise was eleven months old, Sofia returned to England (sans husband) after the fall of Lord Voldemort. She had not announced her pregnancy to British circles during her absence, and word spread quickly upon her return. Gossip moves ever so quickly, especially among circles devastated by arrests after the fall of Lord Voldemort. Eager to sink their teeth into something happy, Sofia was welcomed back into their society with gladness.
Blaise listened and learned, a swift learner from a young age. Italian quickly became the language spoken at home, a language easily used for whispered secrets in public that very few others could understand. Blaise was bilingual as soon as he began to speak properly.
Sofia and Blaise made connections early on in his life with other pure-blooded families that had recently brought forth heirs, knowing that it was likely Blaise would end up at Hogwarts with these children. Blaise was a quiet child, much like his mother he was happy in his own company and felt little need for friends. But still they tried, and Blaise happily attended functions as it meant he got to dress up in his finest little suit.
Blaise grew up with Gilderoy Lockhart as ‘Uncle Gil’. Blaise adored his Uncle and the fantastical stories that he told, staring at him with nothing but love and adoration in his eyes whenever Gilderoy was around. Frequently, Blaise would beg Uncle Gil to tell him a bedtime story which would go on for hours because heaven forbid Gilderoy shortened his stories. Sofia would linger in the doorway of Blaise’s bedroom with a fond smile on her lips watching her two favourite boys in the whole world interact so easily.
(Gilderoy was, of course, a terrible influence upon Blaise but Sofia loved them both dearly and saw little problem with anyone being more like Gilderoy Lockhart.)
Between Sofia and Gilderoy, Blaise was spoiled rotten and never wanted for a thing. However under his mother’s influence he grew up to be strong, standing firm in what he believed and in his own self-worth. He knew who he was, what he was capable of, and would not waver.
Many believe Blaise Zabini to be cold and aloof, much like his mother - but if you manage to break down the barriers around his heart one would find a loyal soul, who would do anything for those he called friends.
His first signs of magic were at the age of eight, where in a spectacular fit over not liking a piece of clothing Sofia wished him to wear he shattered every single window within the manor. Sofia had never been prouder of her son.
Blaise follows in his mother’s footsteps in being spectacularly gifted in transfiguration, but he also has an aptitude for potions.
Mother and son have a strong bond. When Blaise moved to Hogwarts, he promised to write weekly as many children do. He kept that promise - writing long letters each week in Italian informing his mother of the going-ons around school, the acquaintances he had made and the subjects he was learning. Over the years, these letters only developed and grew. In second year, Blaise kept his mother updated about Gilderoy and his curious teaching style. In fifth year, many of his letters revolved around the Inquisitorial Squad and it’s activities. Sofia received every letter with a great deal of interest and poured over them - she has a whole writing room in the manor dedicated to their correspondence, with the letters filed away neatly by date.
Blaise Zabini is always Sofia’s number one priority in everything she does. Her son means everything to her.
