OKAY BUCKLE UP MAX TIME TO TALK ABOUT FUCKING ✨ S H R O O M S ✨
(no specific order)
Barbie Mushroom - Podoserpula Miranda. These pretty little fuckers are Messiam's favorite mushroom because they're so pretty and I'm honestly in love with them, they look so hekkin cool! Its common name is the Barbie pagoda fungus, and it was found in 2009! The only other type of mushroom in its family is the Podoserpula Pusio(though having 4 different variations), and they both grow in tiers from a central stalk. No other species of mushroom grows like that.
Werewere-kokako - Entoloma Hochstetteri. The mushroom itself is this beautiful, vibrant blue color, with red-tinted gills due to its spores. Its blue color is due to three azulene pigments, and is found in New Zealand (surprise surprise). Fun Fact: The blue wattle on the kokako bird (An endemic bird to new Zealand) comes from the kokako rubbing on the blue fungi, and both the Werewere Kokako and Kokako Bird can be found on the New Zealand 50$ note!
Green Pepe - Mycena Chlorophos. Again! Another pretty mushroom!! Did you expect any less? Anyways, this mushroom glows. That's right- glows. First described in 1860, you can find them in subtropical Asia! "The optimum temperature for the growth of mycelia is 27 °C (81 °F), while the optimum for the growth of primordia is 21 °C (70 °F)." ㅡ "Maximum luminescence occurs at 27 °C, and about 25–39 hours after the primordia begin to form, when the cap has fully expanded. At 21 °C, luminescence persists for about 3 days, and becomes undetectable to the naked eyes about 72 hours after primordium initiation"
Dung cannon - Pilobolus Crystallinus. These motherfuckers shoots their damn spores from filaments with enough built up pressure to reach 25 meters per second.
Death cap - Amanita Phalloides. AKA the world's deadliest mushroom. (Try to convince me that isnt cool. I'll wait.) It has a cousin named The Destorying Angel, which is almost equally cool and rude.
I love Aidan because he's the kind of person who doesn't quite understand the assignment, but still does it with burning passion.
Thank you, love. That was very interesting to read. I'd love to know more about mushrooms.
