who would you like to get to know more in the society?

  BASILE . he’s locked up , and puts on a good front . . but i think he has a lot going on behind the scenes , if he’d let someone in . JACE , especially now that he’s dating one of my favourite people . ROSE . . she’s got something to her , doesn’t she ? something that’s just . . wonderful . ZOYA , because look at her .  i . . i mean , i guess i wouldn’t MIND knowing GEORGE more . JOSIE . . because she’s so selfless and kind and warm . i adore her , a lot .

  if  there’s  one  good  thing  that  has  come  from  the  incidences  at  his  informal  and  the  masquerade,  it’s  a  newfound  sense  of  unity  that  eliot’s  found  amongst  his  circlet.  demonstrated  best  in  how  basile  just  so  happens  to  be  up  when  eliot  has  finished  his  morning  swim  and  is  getting  ready  to  head  to  class.  or  how  he’s  suddenly  found  himself  sending  more  status  updates  to  the  other  in  the  evening  (  just  to  let  him  know  he’s  okay  when  he  meets  classmates  for  a  pint  after  uni  ).  neither  of  them  have  said  a  word  about  the  coincidences  (  that  only  seem  to  be  multiplying  by  the  day  ).  but  if  there’s  anything  eliot’s  learnt  from  having  four  older  sisters  who  speak  through  their  actions  rather  than  their  words  —  it’s  that  sometimes  speaking  can  be  meaningless.   little  gestures  would  always  show  true  care.  “hey...”  he  starts  in  greeting,  walking  into  the  manor  kitchen  early  in  the  afternoon.  “have  you  seen  my  portfolio  folder  around...?”  it’s  said  for  basile’s  benefit  more  than  his  own,  for  eliot  already  knows  he’s  left  it  propped  by  the  front  door.  “we  have  to  be  in  a  little  earlier  today,  at  two,  just  so  professor  medina  can  take  copies,  so  i  have  to  take  it  in  with  me.”

four unsuccessful leaps. four times he’d tried hopelessly to keep his dolce and gabbana pyjama bottoms out of reach of fountain water, only to grumble when they inevitably made the dip as he scrambled to hold onto the blouse. eliot doesn’t attempt it a fifth time. instead, he retreats back into the house, already wondering how he’d go about telling june and rose he was unsuccessful in his endeavour to hang a faculty member’s blouse from the fountain. 

it’s only as he’s about to re-enter the foyer that an idea hits. namely when looking at the giant standing before him, and in a moment of drunken genius, he strides over to his fellow opal; already grinning with the knowledge that it will be fifth time lucky. “umm... basile,” eliot starts softly, looking up at the other opal, twirling the fabric around in his hand absentmindedly as he speaks. “do you happen to have your slippers with you...? i need your help outside asap.”
