– THE NIGHT AFTER GRADUATION HAS BEEN...A BIT OF A WHIRLWIND. everyone’s been packing up and leaving all day long, and claire now sits cross-legged on kass’s childhood bed as she starts the first stages of packing – both her room into boxes and for their trip to italy. everything claire owns can pretty much be fit into two suitcases, so she doesn’t have this issue. watching kass run around her room this way, opening cabinets, going through stuff...it’s a little fascinating to her, like watching a gerbil run around its cage or something. essentially : unhinged but adorable. “ hey...do you have a minute ? ” claire asks, “ i wanna talk about something. ”

– “HEY, KASS!” AYLIN GREETS HER CHEERFULLY, waving her down by the drinks table. she’s actually in really good spirits, though she hasn’t seen julian in a minute. “ it must have been nice to not have to do all the planning for this event, i mean...with everything, ” namely kass’s girlfriend and the committee’s other co-president. aylin makes the yikes face of the gavin meme. “ it turned out so pretty, though. still, it’s hard for me to imagine everything going this smoothly next year without you. ”

– “HEY, EXACTLY WHO I WAS HOPING TO SEE...you’re jas michaud, right ? ” a blonde girl that appears to be running around making sure everything’s in order despite the fact that the party’s already in full swing...that checks the boxes ! “ i have a question for you. ”

LOCATION: hallway, just outside the dining hall

– “HEY, KASS, WAIT UP!” louis practically chases her down the hall. honestly, the thing about the sword doesn’t bother him much, all this gallagher drama is something he’s about to leave behind, and he’s not all too attached to the traditions. what DOES worry him is that email from a couple days ago, with kass’ father on the top of the list. he was angry with whatever students had done it for their irresponsible, insensitive use of hacking – that’s not what their skills were for. no one should find out that stuff about their parents from an email. 

“ hi, sorry, ” he’s a little out of breath when he catches up to her, resting his hands on his knees as he holds one finger up, begging her to give him a moment. “ i just – hey, ” he beams as he stands up straight, “ i wanted to talk to you at the picnic, but you seemed...busy. ” louis clears his throat, “ are you okay ? ”

– “ HEY, ” ALLIE SMILES BRIGHTLY, sliding into the seat beside kass in the library, placing her laptop down in front of her. she holds out her hand, “ ’m allie. ” she introduces herself pretty promptly, hoping they haven’t already crossed paths before ( she’s met so many new people in these past few weeks that it’s super hard to keep track ! ) kass probably isn’t the sort of girl who’d she’d label as a ‘computer nerd’ – she knows it’s a stereotype and all, but...the girl beside her is sort of drop-dead gorgeous...it doesn’t scream geek. anyways, she’s NOT staring. “ hate to ask you a favor this early into our friendship, ” allie jokes with a short laugh, “but, um, someone told me you might be the person to go to if i couldn’t get this thing,” allie points at her laptop, “ to turn on ? sorry, you probably get people bothering you about this all the time. ” but she can’t do her classwork without it.

– “HI,” SHE LEANS AGAINST THE DOORFRAME TO KASS’S ROOM. she’s just been for a run, so she’s a little sweaty, but it’s done nothing to get her anger out. it’s the sort of thing she’s been to therapy about, the times when she sees red and can’t stop mind from running rampant with darker thoughts. it’s a double-edged sword, because she knows that seeing kass upset will only fuel the fires of her anger, but kass is also the only person that could make her feel like anything is alright. she pushes her hair back away from her face. “ i need you to convince me not to kill a guy today. ”

– THIS TIME LAST YEAR, claire had been drinking herself sick watching kass arrive at the gala with someone else. there probably would have been more MATURE ways to deal with her jealousy, ones that she would have remembered better the next morning, but she doesn’t think she’d change a thing about what it took to get them where they are today. sure, she’s had a few drinks, but they’re celebratory for a change, and unlike last year, she can freely sneak up behind kass and wrap her arms around her waist, using her girlfriend’s shoulder as a chin rest as she pulls her close from behind. “ are you going to be busy all night ? ” claire asks, though her tone is playful – she’s not REALLY whining. “ because i’m pretty sure the gala can survive without your presence for a bit. ”

– CLAIRE HAS HARDLY SEEN KASS ALL DAY IN ALL THE COMMOTION, and she has tried to give her some space all things considered. though mostly she just thinks the guys are stupid for fucking around on the track like that after hours and this is why gallagher should've stayed an all-girl's school. it's pretty much nightfall by the time claire makes it to kass's dorm, leaning up against the doorframe with a fond smile, " did you think i forgot ? " she asks with a glint in her eye. she reaches for kass's hand, tugging her closer so she can kiss her deeply, tapping her forehead against hers as she mutters " happy birthday, " against her lips. claire's not MUCH for romantics or crazy displays of affection, but she knows that kass is, so she's put a lot of thought into it over the past month. and she kind of feels like the girlfriend role gives her free reign to do the most – because who else is gonna ? " come here, i want to show you something, " she says, squeezing kass's hand gently as she leads her towards the common room. " how're you doing ? "
