“i should have taken seven classes both semesters last year,” she admits with a sigh, before rolling her eyes fondly. if it had been an option, it wouldn’t have made a difference since she hadn’t know she’d be dating louis until the year was nearly over, but she’s grateful for all the things this past year has taught them about the strength of their relationship. “you could be distracting me from looking at memes on reddit, that totally counts!” jas would truly never open reddit while at work, whether on her phone or not, but he knows better than her that there are only productive hours while working for the fbi. “i’m glad i don’t have to use my amazing powers of perception with you, though.” there will always be things he doesn’t say, of course. the same is true for her. but when he’s not saying something, she can always tell, it’s just a matter of whether or not she tries to push the subject or not. she always says he’s entitled to his own feelings and thoughts, that he doesn’t owe them all to her, but that just makes her feel even happier when he chooses to talk about them. “since when have you ever tried?! maybe kissing at your desk will feel spicy.” it’s funny because they’re acting like a few workplace kisses are the equivalent of hooking up in the bathroom, which she knows he would not find exciting at all! “okay, well, technically, they’re for women to store things in while waiting to be married, but in modern times i would say it’s basically just a large chest to store things in? at least let me tie them up with a ribbon.” it feels sort of ironic to keep both of their letters together, but it wouldn’t make sense any other way. “maybe men in black is real, we’d have no way of knowing.” because of the memory erasing thing.

– "IF ANYONE COULD PULL THAT OFF, IT'S YOU. though even you have to admit that it sounds a little exhausting, " louis points out. and he thoroughly enjoyed school and classes, too – one of the reasons he preferred gallagher's curriculum, because it wasn't so focused on the physical activity, but he also likes to devote time to a particular subject, and seven is definitely cramming, it doesn't leave much time for independent research or curiosities. besides, he never would have asked jas to change her schedule for him – it was just the way things worked out, and he thinks they've turned out pretty good. " if you're looking at memes on reddit at work, then i don't think being distracted by ME is the problem, " he laughs. " no, although they are pretty amazing. i think you figure out things about me before i've even figured them out myself, " maybe because when he's with her, he feels like he's paying even more attention to her than he is to himself anyway, and that’s not even a purposeful thing, he just can’t take his eyes off her which also leads not being able to think about much else. " spicy... " he trails off with a chuckle, " i guess we'll probably have the chance to find out. " though he still doesn't want to get in trouble at his workplace, which is his main anxiety about it. " i wonder if there will be paperwork we'll have to file ? probably. " he's never had to contend with dating someone in the workplace before. " oh, that's interesting, i didn't know there was like...something dedicated to that. but sure, yes, a ribbon, " he agrees. somewhere safe. " true. though it would've been nice if they pulled that technology out when we had the witness protection kids on campus last year. "

“how dare you graduate first,” she teases, tugging gently at his tie. actually, she does mean that, how dare he make her fall in love with him just to move an hour away for an entire school year! but, in a lot of ways, she’s glad for it. jas feels like they learned how to appreciate one another, and what they have, quickly because shared moments felt so special. and even knowing she’ll be living with him by tomorrow, this moment feels special and fleeting, too, because it is. every single memory is a once in a lifetime deal and she’ll never take that for granted. “i really think it might be, you know, aside from paris.” where she still needs to drag him! “i think being distracted by you could be very good for me. mentally, and spiritually, and physically. but maybe not so good for my productivity.” she leans up to peck a quick kiss to the end of his nose, because little does he know, all of his various faces are very attractive. “i love how expressive you are. you may feel like i’m a mind-reader sometimes, but everything i need to know about how you’re thinking or feeling is right there on your face.” they both know this is a bit hyperbolic, because part of being on the same page and knowing the right things to say is about being so attuned to louis and his feelings, and that’s not a privilege everyone has. but louis isn’t good at schooling his features, either, his facial expressions give him away so often. “maybe the danger will make it more enticing,” she suggests with a grin and joking eyebrow waggle. “i guess we’ll find out soon enough.” although she’s been waiting for graduation eagerly, the fact that it’s here, she’s going to be an actual adult, is hard to wrap her mind around. she pouts. “i want to talk about you, but fine,” she sighs dramatically in defeat. “we should store our shoeboxes full of letters together somewhere. i’ll get us a hope chest!” it feels so incredibly nice to refer to furniture as an us thing now, even if they were both thinking of his place in those terms in preparation for the future, this is different. “yeah, that’s what i think! most scientists believe aliens are out there, it makes sense to have something in place for any potential scenario.”

– “I KNOW, IT WAS PRETTY RUDE OF ME,” HE LAUGHS LIGHTLY, shaking his head. “ though in my defense, i think you’re smart enough to have skipped a grade or graduated early, so you probably should have just done that. ” as much as louis loves her, he doesn’t think he would have stuck around gallagher for ANOTHER year, especially since he was only an hour away. so, he would’ve much preferred she just graduate too. still, louis doesn’t regret this year a bit, despite the certain distance – he feels like they’re even stronger than they were last year, and they still have an incredible future to look forward to. he has no reason to actually feel bad about it. “ well, i’ll try to only distract you during...times you don’t need to be productive anyway,” he laughs, “ though maybe that doesn’t count as properly distracting ? ” louis adds, wrinkling his nose slightly, playfully, when she leans up to kiss it. maybe she’ll find that various face attractive, too, but he’s certainly not trying. “ well, i also don’t really try to hide my emotions from you – so, that helps, but i also know that you’re very perceptive anyway, i wouldn’t stand a chance, ” he adds. he thinks he could be more subtle if he needed to be, but...he’s also NOT a field agent, so there’s no need ! he’s never considered himself a very prolific liar anyway. “ since when have i ever found danger enticing ? ” he teases, wiggling his eyebrows back just to mimic her. “ what’s a hope chest ? ” he asks, “ but that sounds cool, i’ve got them all...though they’re just in my desk drawer. ” louis’s apartment is really going to benefit from jas’s touch. “ yeah, i feel like there’s probably...more going on than WE know about, so i’m sure the branch is bigger than we’d expect...or maybe i just said i expected it, but you know what i mean. something’s going on, ” he adds, tearing his gaze away from her to look up at the sky.

“i don’t think i could do that,” she says, slightly contemplative. it’s interesting to consider as a hypothetical, but would suck in practice. “there’s so many career opportunities here, i can’t imagine anything making it worth it to move so far away from you. because my career is important to me, but so are you. even when i retire from whatever i’m doing in fifty years, you’re still going to be there. and my family is only a couple of hours away.” jas knows that the things she’ll look back on most fondly will be personal victories more so than career milestones. she smiles widely. “yeah, but hey! that goes both ways.” they’ve had different variations of this conversation many times before, so she won’t delve into the details of how very distracting he is in his own right. okay, mostly. “the face you make when a piece of code isn’t cooperating,” she can’t help saying, as an example, of things she would rather look at than whatever she’s work on. “is this permission to give you lots of kisses at work?” of course not but that would be convenient! “but can’t i celebrate my night by basking in our mutual perfection?” she knows these loopholes never work with him but it’s not like he’s mad at her for always wanting to talk about how proud she is of him. “a big part of why i took the job is you, being near you, but it’s really nice having a specific goal to work toward instead of having all these job offers and not knowing how to differentiate between them.” it’d probably be just as pleasant working at a different agency in the dc area, but she feels immense relief having his year of experience as a safety net. it’s less scary going out into the real world because that’s where louis already exists. “my obnoxiously long letters didn’t tempt you to run away, even a little?” she’s teasing but there are people out there who wouldn’t appreciate or understand her desire to write letters on a weekly basis when facetime and texting and phone calls exist. she laughs, unsure whether he’s being serious or not. “i cannot wait to see that. there is a division of the fbi dedicated to that, though. has soren ever mentioned wanting to work there?” 

– "OKAY, WELL, THEN IT WAS SORT OF RUDE OF ME TO SET WHERE WE HAD TO LIVE, just because i graduated first. hopefully dc is just your dream location anyway, " he offers, though in terms of career opportunities for them, it's definitely the place in america that makes the most sense. and it's lucky that's not too far from her family as well, because he knows how important that is to her. louis laughs at her response and nods, " see, it wouldn't be good for EITHER of us. and i'd like to say that maybe i could build up some strength over time, if we worked in the same room together every day, but...something tells me it'd only get worse, " he figures if he goes by the pattern, that he's more in love with her every day, that other things will only escalate as well. " i hardly feel like that face is attractive, " he'll dispute even though he knows it's pointless – still, he can't help but be surprised that she's interested in when he's GLARING at his computer screen. " um... " he pauses at her question, " well, i don't want to get in any sort of trouble. " predictably. he grins back at her and says : " no. " taps her nose with his finger for emphasis before he adds, " this is about YOU. " he's had plenty of days about him this year, anyway.  he understands how that feels, because he'd had a lot of recruiters and people reaching out to him after everything happened with cecil and it had been more overwhelming than anything, though it was a good problem to have. " no, and now that i've saved them all, it's like i have an entire book of things you've said to me, which is nice. and i can save them forever, which...you know how much i love technology, but saving a screenshot or an email isn't quite the same. so, that's how you know i mean it, " he adds. unfortunately i reached a paywall on all the news articles i wanted to read about the behind the scenes of the ufo report, so i'm gonna wing it here and louis will know as much as me. " they're not super up front about that, but i wouldn't be surprised if it exists, probably another special projects branch like the one i'm on, right ? " since he can't discuss what he's doing either.

        REACHING OUT, kass squeezes his arm lightly.   “ thank you. ”   his words mean a lot to her, and she won’t forget them.   “ no, it definitely was. germany was a really cool country. i haven’t been able to find a beer i like since, ”   she jokes.   “ honestly !   if only our intern advisors could see us now, ”   kass grins, and maybe later she’ll try to dig up some old pictures from that summer, to send to louis for a laugh. proof that internships can help you land your dream job. she knows most of jas’ updates from the blonde herself, but she nods along.   “ that’ll be exciting, you guys finally living together. what do you do to stay busy in dc ? “   kass prompts, wanting to hear more about his life in the city.

– “WELL, MAYBE WE CAN FIND A COOL BREWERY IN DC OR SOMETHING,” louis says, although he can’t drink any beer that’s actually good so he has no idea...but he’s sure that they can find one, and really he’s just trying to offer up some plans to hang out more than anything else. “ kass, you’re going to be so disappointed by my answer and you should know that already, ” because he plays video games and spends a lot of time on his computer, “ but aside from computer stuff, go out every once in a while and jas has been visiting half the time before the whole...you know, ” cecilgate thing where she got banned from leaving campus, “ so, i’d save the touristy things for then, like all the museums and parks and fancy restaurants. you won’t be bored if you don’t want to be, basically. ”

“oh, no, i meant i’m cool and sexy, and that’s half of us two.” she squints at him, then laughs. “you’re, uh…nice and cute.” ingrid accidentally makes them sound like downgrades but they’re just alternative adjectives! “it counts, sort of, like at least you’re not letting your console gather dust. but there’s tons of cool games out there!”

– LOUIS FURROWS HIS BROW FOR A MOMENT, like he’s computing, but then he shrugs nonchalantly. it’s a compliment, nonetheless : “ alright, i’ll take it. ” he doesn’t think of them as downgrades. he knows he’s nice for sure, at least he TRIES to be. “ true. i guess usually when i get home from work, i just want to play what’s already comfortable. ”

        “ IT’S HAPPY TEARS, ”   she smiles slightly.   “ i mean, it’s a little sad too, but it’s more happy than sad. i’m okay, really. too much to drink tonight, should probably stick to water. ”   kass puts down her empty glass.   “ i look forward to being busy, honestly. the last professional experience i had was last year’s internship, and we all know how that went, ”   she jokes. she’s quiet as she listens to his advice, mentally writing it all down, despite being a little drunk. kass nods.   “ ask questions. got it. thanks, louis. i’m really glad to be working with you again. i missed you. ”   the smile she offers him is small, trying to not cry again. this time it’s probably the alcohol.   “ how have you been ?   what’s new in your life ? ”

– “OKAY, WELL, IF YOU NEED ANYTHING...like, even just to talk, i’m here. i know i haven’t been through it at the level that you have, but i can probably say more confidently than most people that it’ll work out, ” he smiles. “ well, it was a fun vacation at least, ” louis suggests, even if he hates plane rides and needs to be pretty much knocked out on all kinds of drugs for the duration of them if he’s going to make it at all. “ same, it’s kind of full circle, isn’t it ? who would’ve thought ? ” his expression is fond, and it’s actually so funny to him to look back to when they first worked together as teenagers. “ most of the new things for me are just new for jas...she’s got a job in the same building that starts soon, and she’ll be moving in after graduation, so. that’s the majority of the excitement. ” and he might be up for a promotion soon, but he doesn’t want to jinx it by saying anything.

“definitely! i think her entire life in america will be in dc this summer.” which to jas includes louis. of all the amazing things about landing the job she wanted, another perk is the ease at which she can keep in touch with other alumni and current gallagher students. “i was always going to be willing to make us work no matter what, but it’s…really nice that the fbi gave me a chance so things will be easy, easier, for once.” jas is excited for her new job on its own merits, but it’s a gigantic relief that she won’t have to work in a different city from the person who means the most to her. she smiles and lightly swipes her thumb across his lower lip. “and thankfully, i’m sure we’ll be working on different floors so we won’t distract each other, either.” because she’ll never forget how louis often refused to study with her because he couldn’t focus, even when she was just minding her business. the idea of occasional lunches together or him being in the same building when she has a rough day is indescribably reassuring. she mimics what he often does for her and brushes away non-existent tears from his cheeks, slightly teasing, but she honestly loves how his impulse is always to use his thumbs instead of grabbing for a tissue. “you know…” she exhales a breath with a hiccup, because just thinking about this is making her closer to tears than landing the job she’d wanted. “i promise i’m not trying to make this about you instead of me, actually this is about us, but…thinking about how nervous you were to even ask me to be your girlfriend, because long distance seemed so daunting and impossible, and it felt like no matter what i said you’d always be scared, but then we spent the entire summer together and by the time i had to go back to school and you had to start work, you were the one reassuring me that everything would be okay and it wasn’t actually that long and, um…i’m really proud of us? that you got to that place of security and that i helped you get there, and that you trust me that much despite…” abandonment issues! she wraps her arms around his neck, smiling when he kisses her. “will you give me a tour of the fbi headquarters?”

– “OF COURSE, BUT...naturally i was going to be more excited about this than if you’d accepted a position at mi6 or something like that, ” he laughs. it’s true that he wouldn’t give up on them easily because of distance, but there is a lightness that comes from the fact that he’ll be able to be around her all the time, that they can wake up side by side or make dinner together in the same kitchen. they can decide to go on dates in a whim or spend all day in bed without worrying about having to make the absolute most of certain time together because it will feel as endless as it is. he can’t take his eyes off of her, can’t stop smiling. “ true, if you were in the same room as me that would definitely compromise my focus, but...you already knew that, ” he says, “ and i’m trying to keep this job that is in the same building as you, thanks. bonus is that not a single one of my coworkers can accuse me of making you up any more. ” louis grins, because it’s true that she’s way too perfect and he’s not even mad that other people can see it as well ! louis leans into her touch, arm wrapped around her waist in the night air, and at this point he knows that there’s probably nothing he can do to keep her from crying so long as they’re happy tears. “ still, i want this to be your night, ” he says, “ because it’s your achievement, and your exciting new job and...i’m happy to be part of that, but i also want to celebrate how hard you’ve worked for all of this. ” he’s here for her graduation, after all, and this is her final gala and her job offer ! louis is more than content to just be here at her side. “ it was scary, especially at first, but...honestly, i think stepping up to make sure you were okay through all of it distracted me from my own worries, and you were so open about everything that it felt silly to hold on to my doubts about that, ” he admits, so in a way, her extremes were actually perfect for him, just another reason that they fit so well together. “ of course – i mean, i’m sure you’ll get one from your new employer, but i can show you my favorite flights of stairs and everything. ” he hates the elevators anyway. “ it’s definitely less exciting than you’d expect after watching like, the x files. there’s no room for alien subjects that i know about...but i haven’t quit looking. ”

“they don’t want to give me my pension!” she’s only around 50% sure she’s using that word right, but it sounds good, so she’s sticking with it! “oh, well, good!” somebody should. jas has a million things on her mind, as she often does, so she’d briefly forgotten about the promise she wasn’t fully authorized to make. jas is going to be working at the fbi now, too, though she wasn’t at liberty to divulge that information at the time. “i’m sure luce wants to visit dc, too!” not just for them, but for all of her friends from georgetown. jas assumes there are others who weren’t in witness protection, because luce is the kind of person who can be friends with anyone and everyone. “i’ll help,” she says sweetly, running a hand under his suit jacket as if she’s going to remove it now, before returning both hands to his chest. ideally, jas would like to be as close to his heart as humanly possible at all times, with his pulse racing beneath her fingertips or under her ear so she knows exactly what she’s doing to him. it’s also a constant, comforting sign of life, and just thinking about him being alive at the same time as her is enough to brighten her whole day. “they’re the most exciting things to me, as a matter of fact.” which she knows he knows, he’s just being louis. it doesn’t come as a surprise, but she squeals anyway, more so in delight than shock. she cups his face while her feet are off the ground and keeps them there even after she’s back on the ground, running her thumbs across his cheeks to feel his dimples. “thanks, i’m…i’m proud of me too.” it’s not something she thinks often, despite how hard she works. there’s always room for improvement and she tends to focus on that instead. “yeah, i can!” she laughs, tracing his smile lines again for emphasis. jas hadn’t been feeling teary-eyed, for once, but there’s really no stopping the pricks in the corners of her eyes once he wipes at his own. she pulls him down for another kiss, laughing against his lips. “see, it’s not so easy to keep it together all the time!” she kisses him again, softer this time, then pinches his chin gently between her finger and thumb. “i love you, and i really appreciate all of your help with the whole process, and for…so many things. and we actually, officially, survived being apart for a whole school year, even when i felt like i was seriously gonna die.” which is why she finds it so difficult to stop kissing him now.

– “TRUE, I’M SURE SHE’LL BE AROUND AT SOME POINT. we can make plans, ” louis confirms, though it is kind of funny for him to see luce in new context, considering he met her when he was supposed to be protecting her, he sort of saved them both from nearly dying, and now none of that hugely dramatic stuff is happening and they sort of have a friendship, but louis can’t really shake the initial impulse to look out for her. the sound of jas’s excitement is music to his ears as he lifts her up in the air, he still feels his heart beating fast like an ADRENALINE RUSH, that’s just how happy he is ! he can count the other times he’s felt like this in his life, mostly with her – like when he told her he loved her or the first time they kissed, and now it just comes from the fact that he’s so proud of her that he can barely speak. of course, they’d already talked about their future plans, but this feels like it’s really SOLIDIFIED them and he can’t stop beaming at her if he tried. “ good, you should be, ” he confirms. louis can see that she’s starting to cry to and he feels partially responsible, though it only makes him smile wider at the indication that they’re just very much on the same page about all of this. “ honestly, i know i was scared or...i’m always scared, but i never once doubted US. sure, terrible things would happen on campus and i’d freak out that something was going to happen to you or i’d worry that something might throw a wrench in our future plans, but i never once worried that we’d be alright...i honestly thought i might worry more, but...sometimes i think you read my mind a bit, you always know exactly what to say to reassure me that everything’s fine before i can even start to spiral, ” he admits, pressing another kiss to her lips. “ i love you, too. ”

“of being too cool and sexy for this party? that’s at least half true!” ingrid doesn’t want to call soren’s friend sexy. or cool because, well, yeah. she’s probably lowkey judging his switch right now, i’m assuming it’s naked. “it’s good but it’s soooo addictive, that’s why i brought this guy with me.” she shakes the switch for emphasis. “but dude, that’s not coming out until october, you gotta find other games in the meantime!!”

– “WAIT, WHICH ONE AM I?” LOUIS PAUSES TO ASK, because he doesn’t think that he’s EITHER. he’s never been too cool or too sexy for anything in his life ! his switch actually is like this, so still basic but not totally naked. “ are you telling me that playing breath of the wild for the third time doesn’t count ? ”

“Yes I’m sure!” He was frowning now. “I want a picture with you, Louis, not of myself. I already have a ton of those.” His gallery was mainly his face after all. “Just smile and don’t worry about your hands, they can stay at your sides.” 

– HE DOESN’T WANT TO DISAPPOINT EMMETT, even if it’s maybe INEVITABLE with his penchant for blinking for a photo. it’s kind of at a point where he can’t say no. “ okay, okay, i’ll do my best, ” his hands stick straight at his sides, “ i’m ready. ”

        “ THANKS, LOUIS, ”   that makes her laugh, sniffing again before turning to blow her nose oh-so ladylike.   “ no, i’m alright. it’s just like a leaky faucet – y’know, my eyes. can’t turn it off sometimes. ”   she immediately makes a face at her metaphor.   “ sorry, that was gross. but no, i know. i’m really excited for after graduation, and being in dc and everything. my new coworkers, ”   kass flashes him a smile, but she is stupid excited to be able to work with him soon !   or at least in the same vicinity.   “ i’m more than ready to graduate, it’s just bittersweet. ”   she’d tell him that in a few days she’ll have to move out of her childhood bedroom, which is also part of her tears, but the last thing she really wants to get into is her mom’s job.   “ but hey, tell me :   what should i know ?   like, what am i getting myself into ? ”   not just about the job but about being a gradaute in general !

– “NO, IT’S OKAY, IT MAKES SENSE,” HE LAUGHS LIGHTLY, he is dating jas, he’s a bit accustomed to the notion of sentimental crying at this point. “ i just wanted to make sure that nothing was wrong and that it was more like ? happy crying ? ” it still comes out as a question as he tries to confirm. “ but yeah, i’m really excited for you to meet the whole team ! they’re going to love you, though it’ll keep you busy, ” he says, because cyberterrorists don’t exactly operate on the 9-5 work schedule. “ so, that’s the first thing i’d prepare yourself for, but gallagher honestly does a pretty good job of that. and definitely don’t try to be too cool, ask all your questions – they expect it anyway. i was so nervous about that, i got so caught up worrying that i’d be bothering people, and i wound up really regretting it. ”

“ nah, you look different. something’s changed. you working out? ” he pats down louis’ shoulders to see if they’ve gotten any bigger. he puts him down, a lot more carefully than how he’d picked louis up. his cheeks are starting to hurt from how hard he’s smiling. “ woah, chill out. you don’t even go here, bro. ” he teases. “ i missed you, man. did jas tell you we’re gonna be lunching together this summer? ”

– “YES, BUT...I WAS WORKING OUT WHEN YOU KNEW ME BEFORE, TOO...” louis trails off with a slight grimace, “ but maybe i’ve put on some more muscle. and, um, i got a haircut ? ” trying to list off things that will help. “ gotta uphold my duties as the first gentleman of the ppc, ” he jokes, a title he made up just now. “ she probably did, but if so, i wasn’t paying attention, ” he always assumes jas is on top of it but if she tells him things when he’s playing minecraft, he will not remember. “ i’m glad, though, i missed you too. ”

Rei sees Louis and nods, because she’s awkward and doesn’t know how to say hi to people, and she’s never really been sure if her and Louis were friends anyway. Roommates, yeah. But friends? “Hey.” She strums her fingers on the drink she’s babysitting as she walks closer. “Did you pick your outfit out yourself?” She’s like 90% sure Jas did, but who knows! @redgrve​

– LUCKILY (OR UNLUCKILY) FOR REI, louis can be just as awkward – so he doesn’t think twice about it. still, that seems like a weird question to him, but he can roll with it. rei is one of those people that he knows could kill him with her pinky finger, so he’ll never question her. “ yeah, kind of. it’s my second-best suit, ” nothing fancy because he’s boring ! “ that sounded so pretentious, i’m sorry. how have you been ? ”

 ‘   you brought your switch ?   ’ he forgoes a greeting, and he tries to convince himself that they’ve developed enough of a shorthand that he can do that — but they haven’t, and it’s weird either way, to not start with a hi to a friend he’s not seen in months. ‘   i should’ve brought mine …   ’ his phone-case games usually do the trick in a pinch, but if he’d had known louis had his they could’ve played together. then he looks up, slightly apologetically, mostly happy. ‘   also hi. hey.   ’

– “OH, YEAH. DON’T TELL ANYONE, BUT I WAS WORRIED I’D GET BORED,” he grins sheepishly. louis has gotten better about it, but any large party kind of makes him nervous and he wants to give himself an out – he knows soren gets it, though, and won’t think it’s rude. “ bummer. we can play online soon, though, if you’ve got free time this summer, ” he suggests hopefully. he likes that soren lead with conversation and hit the ‘hi’ afterward, because it’s easier to slip into routine, like no time has passed since they’ve last seen each other. “ hey. ”

“darn, they should fire me,” she says with a faint pout, but it’s quickly overtaken by a smile, because while part of her will miss planning parties and keeping color-coded binders just for events, she’s way more excited about these moments with louis no longer feeling fleeting. for now, though, she can’t shake what she’s unfortunately grown accustomed to, her impulse to cling to him and never let go. she’s made the rounds, but she’ll see those closest to her again tomorrow at graduation before she spends the rest of the morning with her parents and louis. “ooh, right…did he mention anything about lunches with him this summer?” she makes a slight oops! expression, because naturally she’s forgotten to mention this to louis. she grins in response to his reaction, more shameless than flirty, because she is trying to save that for later, mostly. “i guess we’ll just see about that,” she says innocently, because chances are he will remember, he’s only prone to carelessness when intoxicated. and jas isn’t, like, aggressively seducing him all the time, he’s her boyfriend! she doesn’t have to do anything. “i meant it was relating to graduation, like, the future! and you.” those are one and the same. “yes,” she says with an exhale, smiling softly up at him. “contract language analyst, to start.” which, actually, suits her better, in case she decides to try a different career path within the fbi or elsewhere. she’s technically too young to be a special agent just yet.

– “WELL, YOU’RE SO CLOSE TO RETIREMENT...that’d just be rude, ” he remarks, grinning back at her. louis is pretty sure that if he ever TRIED not to smile back at jas when she looks at him, he’d probably break his face because her smile is so infectious, he’s pretty sure he’s been matching her expression since the moment he met her. “ he DID bring that up actually ! ” louis says, “ which honestly...sounds really nice. he can bring luce, too, if she’s around. ” he knows his social life is about to skyrocket ( at least in comparison to what he’s used to while living alone ) when he has jas around. he thinks that’s part of the way that they complement one another, though, she has this way about her that gets him out of his shell and...he thinks that he helps her relax or unwind a bit, when she needs to, though part of the reason he finds it easier to come out of his shell around her is the level of comfort she provides. he is usually the first to suggest leaving a party early though, still. “ i’m sure we will, ” he hums back coyly as if he won’t give it another thought, though he certainly will continue to think about it. “ okay, well. those are all good things, i think, ” he agrees. “ jas, that’s...that’s amazing ! ” louis’s eyes light up, he can’t resist lifting her up into a hug ( hopefully she saw it coming anyway ) and pulling her close to him. he’s grinning when he kisses her lips and it takes him a few more moments to set her down, his hands on her shoulders. “ i’m so proud of you. and so excited. you can tell i’m excited, right ? ” it’s hard not to think about how far they’ve come since they first met, and how excited he is for their future – he used to never think of himself as someone that things would fall into place for, but ever since he met jas, it’s all felt so much EASIER. tears might spring to his eyes, and he’ll wipe them away quickly with the palm of his hand. “ oh, god, i’m pulling a you. ”

“no…but i’m biased, ‘cause i’m thinking about the same thing,” she says with a grin, because she finds it incredibly hard to believe she’ll miss these events enough to regret any second she spent in favor of being alone with her boyfriend. jas doesn’t normally think about anything bad happening to him, but since it’s happened already once before, she’ll never fully shake the impulse to make the most of all their time together. “glad we’ve finally pleased you!” she teases, though she’s happy he seems to be enjoying some aspects of the party, and she does like that he gets to see everyone one last time before graduation. “that depends…” she eyes the fabric of his suit and runs her fingers along the collar, like she hasn’t gotten a good enough look at it yet. “we’ll have to be sure to very delicately fold your clothes tonight. i might forget.” she wrinkles her nose, as if having to remember mindfulness is asking too much, which it kind of is. “of course something good!” she gives his hands a reassuring squeeze as she pushes the doors open with her hip. once the noise of the party is properly muffled and she’s pulled him outside, she pauses briefly to look up at the sky, because she’d like to believe all of their most important memories have been made in full view of the stars. “it’s about us working for the same agency next year.” she bites her lip to keep from smiling too much, but it’s exactly what she’d hoped for, and it’ll give her enough flexibility to figure out what kind of agent she wants to be.

– “THAT’S NOT VERY PROFESSIONAL OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE PPC,” louis points out with a smile, and he’s problematic because he’s not overly concerned about missing beyonce or anything like that. he only knows the radio hits, probably. but even if he wasn’t introverted, he finds it hard to believe that he wouldn’t prefer alone time to a crowded party with her. “ it is nice to see people again, though...i think scott nearly broke my back with the hug he gave me, ” louis chuckles, but it’s been good to catch up with him since he played such an instrumental part in scott’s decision to switch majors, he’s a bit invested. louis eyes jas as she runs her fingertips along the collar of his shirt, basically saying ‘ watch it, or i WILL find an excuse out of here quick ’ also the recognition that she must know exactly what she’s doing. “ i won’t forget, ” he confirms, because he’s never really owned a good suit until recently and he takes exceptional care of his things. “ okay, well, when you say you have something to tell me...i don’t know, it could go either way when it involves gallagher ! ” he points out defensively, accompanied with a slightly nervous laugh. he’s going to pull her close now that they’re alone regardless, and it helps that he’s already been warned that it’s something good. “ the fbi called you ? ” his voice rises in pitch excitedly. he didn’t want to say anything, but he’d been a bit worried since the video leak.

“it’s both rude and childish,” she says with a shake of her head, before producing her own switch from her purse. aka the only reason she even has a purse. “i’ve been playing story of seasons, since some of my friends who had early access hyped it up so much, and it’s fine. i’ve also been playing these detective club games ‘cause they’re finally available in english. have you tried the complete edition of little nightmares yet??”

– “GUESS WE’RE BOTH GUILTY THEN,” HE GRINS, because he probably would have been a little OFFENDED by her comment otherwise, but the only reason he brought it up to ingrid in the first place is because he knew she’d approve. “ no, but i’ve heard good things...actually having a hard time thinking about anything else since they announced the new metroid for switch. ”
