okay, so maybe evie hadn’t been invited to kai’s place but she never needed an invite before, so why start now? don’t wanna set the expectations too high or else kai would start expecting that from her and she really couldn’t be bothered to text every time she wanted to hang out on a whim. it’s always last minute that she goes over, when she decides that the day, or week, or two weeks without seeing him is too much to bare, even though they’ve been apart longer before. kai when he was deployed and every time evie goes on tour.
so she makes her way over, a bag of chinese food in one hand. it feels familiar, the food is from the same place her mom used to splurge on when they were kids and kai’s mom was working one of her three jobs, so he was camped out at her house. her mom had made it fun for them, she remembers laughing and sharing fortune cookies, but looking back at her old house as she often did just led to evie feeling shameful. hana had grown up there, but it wasn’t where evie came to be. and no one needs to know her as hana.
through the door to his place, evie calls, “kai! i brought food and if this door isn’t open within the next thirty seconds i’m absolutely not sharing any of it with you.”
