"Tab, Tab. Look."
Lucky whipped himself around so that his back was facing his best friend, both his thumbs pointing over his shoulders towards the number 6 and the 'THEO' that was above it on the new personalized jersey that Mac had gotten him for his birthday.
The new jersey for his birthday was a mainstay gift though the number and the words on the back changed each time.
( This one was far more appropriate to wear around their daughter than his 0 HOES one from his 21st. )
"She's going to be stoked when she see's."

"All I said is I would get her a crochet flower." Baz explains as he strolls alongside his cousin, gesturing to his niece-of-sorts who was happily playing with the yellow crochet flower he had acquired, just as he said.
"Never said anything about the how."
Good thing too, because Theo was an unwitting accomplice of sorts, which was the most fun part of being related to someone who had a kid. He had a built in partner-in-crime that was too cute for anyone to say anything.
"You having the time of your life yet?"

Keo isn't sure he's where he's supposed to be.
It's both a feeling and a logistical worry as he seats himself in the back row next to the man who had been trying to beckon him over for five minutes. He had intended to stand at the back and quietly pay his respects after shaking Francis' hand and letting him know he was sorry for his loss but Liam Lewis had other ideas.
"You didn't respond to my Patty's Day party invite, did you get it?"
"Yeah, I got it, Liam," Keo confirms, no indication offered that he intended to attend. Before today, he hadn't envisioned being in Aurora Bay for it.
Vegas hadn't been as fun as he wanted it to be so he had re-routed his plans.
Before an unexpected piece of news shared with him while on the phone with his mother the night before, Keo had designs on being behind the wheel of his van drifting towards Arizona by then.
His endless search for something elsewhere suddenly felt small in the scale of what she had told him.
( 'I'm not your secretary, Keo. If you don't want to talk your sister that's your perogative. You're an adult, but I shouldn't have to be the one taking messages and having to track you down. I've got my own life, I'm busy. It's Yelena King's funeral tomorrow and I have no idea what I am going to wear.' )
As he stands on directive of the priest, he can see she had managed to find something as he spots her six rows ahead next to his sister. Funerals were like sustenance for Veronica and he had already warned her before he boarded his flight to be on her best behaviour.
It was the only thing he knew for sure he could do to make a hard day not become any harder for Tab.
He can only see the back of her head for most of the service but he didn't need to see her face to know what she was feeling. He knows what her grandmother meant to her and how close they were. Francis was a good man but he wasn't a young one and Keo can't help but worry about what was to come tomorrow and all of the days after that.
( How many more things could she shoulder before it broke her? )
Keo takes not hearing from her as a staunch indicator that he had ousted himself from the circle of people who had any right to wonder that. Even if that was the case, he wouldn't have felt right not showing up or pretending he didn't know.
He shakes Liam's hand after the service finished, politely declining his invite to get a drink at Four Leaf with a not wholly untrue reason given that he was tired. It had been a long night that had been made longer by an Uber from LAX and a scavenger hunt for the only appropriate thing he had to wear for a funeral that was misplaced among clothes for donation that his mother had yet to get around to actually doing.
He's second guessing himself almost immediately when he spots her leave, assuming it was for either air or a cigarette.
Keo's following the same path to exit the funeral home after her, unsurprised to see Theo with her father and his girlfriend. The same couldn't be said for the dark-haired woman in conversation with her. She wasn't someone he knew himself but as he approaches them, he suspects he knows of her.
"Hey," He says to Tabitha, everything else he wanted to say to her held back when he looks from her to the older woman who she bore a striking resemblance to, unsettled by how the air felt around them.
It isn't his place to draw focus to that or to question it, especially given the day that was in it. A better friend might have been able to let it go, that wasn't in his nature.
"We haven't met," He says to Angelica, "Which isn't much of a surprise. Just took you a death and how many years to remember you're a mom and a daughter?"

Sat at the counter of the diner, Keo was doing his best to follow the sole instruction he had received from the manager that he was twenty minutes early to pick up.
( Don't be distracting. )
It was a task easier said than done on account of how fun she was to distract but he does his best to adhere to it so Gideon would continue to remain as chill as he was about how often Keo hung around the place as of late.

"I'll be honest with you, I don't know what this movie is about plot-wise." Keo announces from where he's stood in front of the microwave waiting for the popcorn to be done popping so they could start the movie that he had rented on VOD. "I just saw surfer, shark and serial killer and said yeah, for sure, what the hell's that going to be, lessgo."
He wasn't difficult to impress when it came to movies, his only metric of measurement for them being whether he enjoyed it or not.
( If it did turn out to be a dud it wouldn't matter, he has other ideas for how they can kill ninety-eight minutes. )
The microwave dings and he reaches to open it, pulling the handle a little too fast without looking at what he was doing which sent a pile of papers that were resting on top of it avalanching off and onto the floor.
"Fuck," He says to himself before freezing and then remembering that Theo was at her dad's so he didn't need to sub in a more Theo-friendly word there. Keo is careful not to step on any as he gathers them, the majority of the pile comprised of drawings, a couple of bills and a letter that he hadn't intended to read but had accidentally skimmed after noticing the emblem on it when placing them back on the microwave.
With a tilt of his head, he continues to 'accidentally' read it's contents while he poured the popcorn out into a bowl, making a 'hm' sound to himself before he reaches for it and tucks it under his arm so he can carry the popcorn in one hand and two unopened beer bottles in the other as he went to join her.
Once he's next to her on the couch with the snacks set down in front of him and his hands free, he doesn't reach for the remote to unpause the movie.
"I know you're on the edge of your seat dying to find out about these animals and what makes them dangerous." He pauses briefly to hold up what he had actually reached for, his question slightly muffled by the acceptance letter he holds in front of his mouth like a very official looking moustache. "But I'm way more curious about what this is."

It was only when Keo was finding something to wear for the evening did he regret not spending more time in the arranging with Tabitha locking down how they were approaching the dress code. He knew they would be strict on enforcing it but there was a world between just about hitting the mark and exceeding it in a way that could either be come off as well-executed or disastrously try-hard.
Managing to convince her to attend something of this nature on a rare free night in her calendar felt like something precarious, like if he circled back to it it might having her thinking that it was more trouble than it was worth and her original chill plans were a better use of time, so he hadn't.
Instead, he decided to take the risk that he might fall into that lame try-hard category and he went with a suit and tie that he had actually taken care to pick out and was only on the finishing drag of a half-joint outside Seascape that he had brought along with him when he stubbed it out as his date for the night arrived text that she was just about there.
He had texted back a quick 'cool, outside' just to almost miss her arrival entirely. The double take that he did at an approaching brunette had been instinctual, stemming from an incapability to not appreciate a pretty face when it passed him by. Except this one wasn't passing him by and he feels mildly dumb for not recognising her quicker.
"Damn, you weren't kidding about going all out, were you?" He says as he walks towards her, taking her in for a second with his eyes before he speaks again, "I like the dress. And the hair."
